It not surprising at all.
1) Can he recruit?
His main attribute in his first two year is his recruiting prowess. We had what was a top 5 Rivals ranked class that is now at 24 on it way to slipping out of the top 25 maybe even top 30. Not exactly chess pounding stats given we are suppose to be on our way back. Don't blame the recruits, CJF owned the top 5 ranking when he got kids to commit, he owns the sub top 25 when kids decommit.
2) Can he coach?
We knew OB could coach and that attracted talent even under sanctions. We know Joe could coach (better in his prime). CJF??? Who really knows. We know his DC can coach, and he's looking for the door. CJF fires is OC even though rumors are the turd we had on offense was by CJF's design. So we jettison his offense for a totally new FBS offense hoping this one is going to be better than the failed one. People point to guys like Saben who loses assistants every year, well Saben can coach and recruit. Can Franklin coach??? No one really knows.
When you got a coach whose main attracting is recruiting and that ain't doing so well and we still have no clue on his coaching abilities (or maybe we do and it's not looking so good), you end up with dumpster fires.
But, I'm sure James will find a MLB team to throw out the first pitch in spring so all will be good.
