Will Barkley be able to run against Michigan? What surprises may be in store?

To me, it is clear that our RPO against UM's front 7 will lead to several TFL on Barkley if we keep trying the same things, so we will need to show new wrinkles in our offensive schemes. I just wonder what others think about how to get SB carries where he can get outside and break a few free!. Your thoughts please?

The idea is to get him in space whether that is with a handoff or a pass...doesn't really matter. PSU will have their hands full this weekend putting points up, but hopefully Trace can continue to do what he did versus NW. Take what is there and limit the mistakes. Barkley like Sanders could have 19 yards going into the 4th quarter and then just bust out a 75 yard run. While he is the key to this game for UM, the key for PSU to win will be Trace and the passing game and the OL giving him 2.5 seconds to make some passes.

I expect alot of wheel routes and passes to the flats to negate the aggressiveness of that defense. This should open up the middle of the field a bit. However, Moorhead knows better than all of us.

I really like the two back set that we showed a bit with Tommy vs Northwestern, I think. It seemed to add more RPO options to the RPO. I would consider using Sanders instead of Stevens however.

Just for poops and giggles, put Saquon in the slot against an LB and Sanders in the backfield. Not sure what all you could run, but eyes would definitely be on Saquon. Now, Sanders doesn't seem to have the same blocking that Barkley does, so that would be an issue.

I agree that the run game will struggle, but a couple of long runs will be had by Penn State. Trace with a few good reads for chipping away at the secondary, then a one-on-one matchup gives him a long ball.

But,yeah, JoMo more than likely has this worked out.

We need a Chris Godwin like performance out of one of our wide receivers.

84 will give it to you. Mark it down. The crowd will get the team amped. I predict a runaway game with the good guys on top. By a lot.

I believe we will see screens and draws to impact the rush. In addition, wouldn't be surprised to see 2 backs in the backfield a couple of times.

Use the pass to set up the run.
Totally agree with this ^^^^.

Experience also tells me that college football is better at creating unexpected surprises than virtually any other sport. I expected Barkley to get more rushing yards against several of the Lions' mediocre opponents earlier this season, but that didn't happen. By contrast, he could well rack up 150 on Michigan if Moorhead calls a good game. You never know.

If, if, if the Oline blocks like they’ve been, Barkley will not have much more than 50 yards rushing. McSorley handing the ball off where he receives the snap will not work. Mich has great DT’s that will plug the middle. The Oline needs to block better in the passing game too. If the don’t, Barkley will spend most of the nite picking up blitzing LB’s.

I think we will see more than a handful of alignments/personnel groupings that we haven't seen before.

CJF and Morehead were there for the Northwestern game two Saturdays ago. They saw the running plays getting stuffed. I credit them with enough intelligence to know that some changes need to be made in order to succeed against the Michigan front seven. If we get the same ol', same ol' and the running game gets stuffed by Michigan, then it truly will be on CJF and Morehead. I just don't think that will happen.

Trace, Tommy, and Saquon all together. Trace laterals to Saquon who laterals to Tommy who throws to Trace who laterals to Saquon who scores a TD. Called it.
Saquon will go deep to the fire hydrant while Tommy Stevens laterals the snap to Trace who will lateral it back to Stevens while Saquon will then break from the fire hydrant and run towards the oak tree where Stevens hits him for 6.

Please stop. Dumb idea.
Why? It gets the ball in SB's hands more quickly and gives him the time to get outside. It brings in another blocker. It worked for Michigan with Jabrill Peppers. And since defenders now have to be concerned that SB might throw the ball, it creates confusion and freezes the defenders.

Moorhead wanted me to tell you that the graduate assistant coach offer was overnight expressed to you. Bring your playbook so he can make copies. :D

Frankly, I think we're going to see the same offense we've been seeing, although I hope I am totally wrong. Barkley is due for an explosion.

the same offense scoring 40+ per game - I'll take it.
The same offense will score 20+ unless turnovers happen against UM, probable 30 - that will win the game

Misdirection and movement. Michigan has all the talent in the world, but they're undisciplined and don't have any depth

I just want to see some new wrinkles. Don't want to see Barkley bottled up this week and the two weeks after.
