Looks like they're making a good run at them. 1/14 with men in scoring position through 8 innings.

I didn't watch the last couple games and probably won't watch many more unless they get hot. It's too frustrating. Watching baseball should be enjoyable. Watching the Bucs right now is not.

After the Pirates got smoked by the Reds in the opening series, I said the team was terrible, and I was raked over the coals.

Let me tell you - I know dreck when I see it. What a limp, flaccid, half-assed, lame-effort clown car of a season.

About the only good that will happen is, Alvarez will get shipped out of here before the trading deadline. I'm not picky - either dirty sweat socks or scuffed practice baseballs will do in return. Or broken bats, I'll take them too.

The team has no fire. They haven't a clue or apparently a desire to learn how to win. Many say it is money and there is some truth in that but I see an organization that fails to teach fundamentals and instill an attitude of doing all the little things needed to win in the majors like moving runners, going the other way with a pitch, drawing walks, etc. It is poor scouting, poor player development and often questionable coaching.

Look at the past 10 years of draft picks and how few the Pirates have developed compared with the Cardinals and Reds.

I am not giving up yet but the best this team can hope for is the second wildcard and that only happens if everything goes right and other teams under-perform.

I'm not convinced this organization has really turned the corner.

I'm also missing Russell Martin, Travis Snider and Jason Grilli...

Well I don't know about talent, but they are woefully short in character. As an aside, I really expected so much more from Polanco than we're getting. Little power and he looks like Kosmo Kramer in the field. I hope he's not another Alvarez in waiting.
