Seriously, though, wish him the best. Tough to come all the way across country to go to college, OK State is also a great choice.

Wished he were part of this class, but not worried about PSU filling this spot.

Aaron Brooks...

If you're not happy wrestling at a University with National Champions at 5 consecutive weighs... than so be it.

Wow, didn't realize that Wittlake was looking around. Plus, the timing was good for him to fill 184 after Nickal moves on. Major bummer.

Wittlake was my favorite 2018 recruit.

Class kid, smart kid, and wrestles like a monster. Wish he was Blue & White. Good luck kid.

OSU pulling out some big recruits this week...they will continue to make things interesting to say the least! Bummer about this, I like Wittlake, hope this choice ends up being his best fit. Good luck to him!

OSU whiffed on Anderson and Moore but managed to fill those up real quick. Even though wrestlers from Oregon scare me, I really liked the kid.

Mr. Brooks, so good to hear from you...the timing on this has nothing to do with me acknowledging your post...<cough cough>

Be prepared for the inevitable “your kid looks good in blue and white” posts headed your way in 3, 2, 1...

Damn that Brooks kid will look great in Blue and White. It would be awesome if someone from the Brooks family knew how much this fan base would really appreciate such a fine young man!

I'm sure. He is focused on school and improving. He loves the coaches and fits in well with the team. PSU is definitely an option after the OTC. I'm from PA, so I've always been a fan. We will see how it all plays out. We have plenty of time to figure it out. Appreciate the respect and adoration for my son! Humbling!

Kennedy and Brooks still on the table. Things happen for a reason. Best of luck to Wittlake.

EDIT: Mr. Brooks, you're too good of a guy to be hanging around on this board. Way too well-written, humble, and composed. If you wanna fit in around here, you gotta start down your PD2 path, man.

First. Ouch. I was looking forward to cheering for the Whttlake kid. Great for Okie State. Another program annually ahead of the Hawks. Shoot, what happens if the Goofs get their swagger back?

Of course if this paves a path from the OTC to The Lorenzo Wrestling Complex and Rec Hall for Aaron Brooks, then everything is great.

OK. Now i have to throw one smart assed comment out here. Does anybody know, did Coach Smith recruit Travis to fill the 165 or 157 spot?

I saw the recruiting news hint from Willie, then checked twitter and saw that Wittlake didn’t have PSU recruit anymore and thought that strange, but still went to sleep before news broke.

Bummer - that kid is tough.

I had been worried all along we wouldn't sign everyone but then actually thought we might make it with signing day closing in. Thankfully there is a talented alternative that would slot right into Bo's spot in a couple years.

Bad week for "BWI insiders" first John Doe and now A2S who first broke the news of wittlake coming.

I really wanted to see what he could do as a Nittany Lion. And I have a soft spot for Oregon - my favorite FFing destination. Best of luck, TW.

Dude, you can participate in Fantasy Football anywhere. It's on the internet! Imagine how much money you've wasted traveling to Oregon just to set your lineup.

That's a shame and a little shocking. You like these recruits and watch their videos, follow their HS careers then boom it's over. I thought he was one that was coming no matter what. Now people are wondering about RBY too. I'll take a page from Coach Casey after the painful Suriano speculation all summer...and of course I'm paraphrasing...Nothing happened this summer. Because in any case this team will move on with guys that want to be here. One door closes and another opportunity comes along such as recruit A. Brooks. That young man just won a world championship right? The coaches will adjust and we'll adjust, you hope for Whittlake's sake it works out better than it did for Marstellar at OK state.

I don't think there's any reason to keep bringing up Chance. This situation has 0 things that are similar.

So are these decomit(s) may be due to confirmation of available scholarship money?
Can't remember, but I seem to recall that someone mentioned the timing on when those discussions take place. Is it now, before kids sign?

Always figured RBY was going to be touch and go up until NLI time, but Wittlake jumping is a surprise given the few interviews I listened to, where he talked up Cael nonstop. The only guy I can think of more onboard the program before stepping foot on campus is Busiello. With recruits verbaling early you hear what their heart wants, but the head has time to catch up before NLI day. It's not worth speculating on Wittlake's reasoning unless he offers something up, but it's easy to imagine sensible reasons that don't reflect negatively on PSU.

Yeah, and his statement was pretty complimentary of the PSU program anyway. I wish the guy luck!

Worth posting this in every thread after this morning's heartburn, though:

This was surprising to me, I thought he was money in the bank. If there was going to be a decommit from Penn State, I thought it would be the lower weights. I think the speculation about Brooks and possibly Wittlake having his offer lowered because Brooks is showing big interest and may be (I think is) a better prospect for the same projected weight.

Or, Wittlake would be 3,000 miles and 3 time zones from home. That isn't for everyone. OSU is significantly less distance.

Is there any indication when Brooks would decide?

Per Google Maps, OKC is closer, but not by nearly as much as you claim. 2,033 miles to Oklahoma City vs. 2,796 to State College. Regardless, sure, that could also be the reason. The thing that makes that, to me, less likely is that it is not a variable that has changed. State College is exactly as far away now as it was then. It's plausible that he simply changed his mind for those reasons, but the variable we KNOW has changed is PSU's contact w/ a big time prospect in his weight range.

Yes. It's a big commitment being all the way across the country. It's not like OK is close, though. More fallout from Oregon losing its program? If the Ducks still had a program, might have Wittlake stayed home? I am surprised the Beavers didn't make a stronger run for him. There wasn't even a whiff of that in the recruiting process.

Peeked in at HR. They are so happy about Wittlake decommiting that they fail to realize his going to OSU is really bad news for them because the Cowboys just got stronger.

In a couple years, it might be a big 3 in college wrestling (PSU, OSU and tOSU), with everyone else a step behind.
