should be a tough match. PSU is the 2 seed in the tourney. They played NW a few weeks ago, went down by several goals early on, then went on a nice run, and held on for a 1-point victory.

the winner will take on Maryland, who won the other semi against Hopkins.

they are playing on Maryland's FH turf, which is slicker than the turf they typically play LAX on.

Go PSU!

wow, yellow card to PSU right off the draw, as while attempting to snag the ball out of the air, she hit the NW draw player on the head -- automatic yellow card (2 minutes out).

NW scores a goal with the player up, 0-1.

NW won the next draw, went right down and scored, but the shooter committed a goal circle violation, so no goal and ball to PSU.

PSU then goes down and scores on their 1st possession, 1-1

NW wins the draw (and PSU commits a draw circle violation so NW would have been awarded the draw even if PSU won it), goes down, and gets a score, 1-2

btw, their playing on MD's FH field explains PSU's WLAX tweet that thanked PSU FH for their help earlier this week (they must have practiced on PSU's FH field)

Another PSU draw circle violation on the next draw, so NW gets the ball. NW scores off a free position, 1-3

NW wins another draw.

NW gets bailed out on a charge, as the PSU defender extends their arms so it's a foul call against PSU.

Turnover by NW.

3-second violation gives PSU a cleared lane, and Katie O'Donnell scores, 2-3

PSU finally wins their 1st draw.

Yellow card on NW, so they're down a player.

PSU gets a free position, but NW's goalie makes the save on the shot, and now NW on the attack. They'll probably milk the clock until they get their player back. Check that, they milked a minute, then went on the attack, and scored on a nice shot from just inside the 8-meter line, 2-4.

Draw violation on NW, so PSU gets the ball. They still have about 30 seconds of man up. They lose the ball, but it goes OOB off of NW. NW gets their player back, so it's even strength. PSU awarded a free position. Steff Lazlo of PSU gets checked in the head on the play, but only a free position awarded. NW's goalie with the save, and now NW on the attack. NW gets it past the goalie, but another crease violation by the NW attack player, so no goal. PSU on the attack. PSU scores on the free position, 3-4.

NW with a nice goal (PSU D went to sleep)

Then PSU answers with a nice goal

4-5, with 18:10 left in the 1st half

and PSU ties it up on a free position while a man up, 5-5

13:18 left in the 1st half

I'll post scores and comments, but I need to stop with the play-by-play.

NW scored a goal to go up, 5-6.

NW player got her 2nd foul, so she's out for the rest of the match (and it's one of their best defensive players)

PSU scored on the restart to tie, 6-6

6:30 left in the 1st

NW scores off a free position.6-7

They win the draw. 2:45 left

Charge on NW going to the net, so PSU on the attack with 1:51 left

PSU shot is saved by the NW goalie, and NW on the attack. They throw it OOB with 1:00 left, and PSU on the attack. PSU turns it over while trying to get a shot. NW on a quick attack, but PSU's goalie with the save. PSU shoots with 6 sec left, but awarded a FP. Her shot is blocked by the goalie, so the half ends, with PSU trailing 6-7.

lightning strike, so we're in a delay.

so BTN shows the B1G Championship football game from last season.

kind of fun to watch the B1G football championship game again.

I just got a couple of texts from the WLAX semi. There is standing water on the field (the FH fields don't handle the rain as well), and it just started pouring again. No word on whether there is a time after which they'll postpone the rest of the match until tomorrow.

finally starting the 2nd half, after over a 1 hr 30 min delay.

game is going to end late.

still water on the edges of the field. hope they never hold the championships on a FH field again

NW scores on their 1st possession (after winning the draw again), 6-8

draw violation on NW on the next draw, so PSU ball. PSU turns the ball over as a PSU attack is checked while going to goal.

NW shot is saved by PSU's goalie, so PSU on attack. They get a free position, and score on it, 7-8. Nice goal by Auth.

PSU wins the draw. NW gets a yellow card (their 5th) on a foul as PSU is going to goal. So PSU is up a player for 2 min. PSU nearly turns it over, but maintains control. Carter gets fouled and gets a free position. Her shot never gets to the goalie, NW recovers, and now will try to milk the remaining 1 minute of being down a player.

NW scores just after they get back to even strength. (PSU D doubled her below the net, and NW's Esposito beat the double team, and then the PSU goalie). Now 7-9.

PSU wins the draw after a wild scramble, and then PSU is fouled. 3 seconds called on NW. PSU tries to feed a girl in front of the net, but she had her back to the pass. PSU with a shot, and the shooter is fouled, so she gets a free position. PSU scores on the free position.

8-9, 22:52 left

NW wins the draw again, but PSU blocks the pass, and then feeds a wide-open player in front of the net to tie the score, 9-9. Nice goal by Maggie Gallagher.

22:40 left.

NW wins the draw again

Shot by NW"s Esposito is blocked by PSU's goalie.

NW retains possession, then turns it over trying to feed a player in front of the net, so PSU with the ball, and they successfully clear it.

Another 3 sec. call on NW. Lazlo tries to set up Madison Carter, but PSU turns it over.

NW with a shot, but PSU's goalie blocks it.

PSU now on the attack, but they throw the ball OOB.

Timeout -- might be a TV timeout

PSU had a really long set, but missed multiple attempts, and eventually had a shot saved by the NW goalie. Then PSU breaks down quickly, as they had a defensive player go for a steal and end up out of position, allowing the NW attacked to go in uncontested, and get the goal. 9-10.

Timeout, with 13:42 left. (I think PSU called the TO, but I'm not certain of that)

PSU gets a yellow card on Natalie Schmitt (seemed like a foul, but not worthy of a yellow, but that's just my opinion). PSU is down a player for 2 minutes.

Shooting space on PSU, so NW will have a free position. NW passes off of the free position.

After some more play, another shooting space violation on PSU. Esposito with the free position for NW, takes the shot, but it's blocked. Alas, NW scoops up the free ball. After some nice passing, Esposito scores, and NW is up 9-11.

10:27 left in the match

NW wins the draw again, but quickly turns it over with a bad pass. PSU back on the attack. Bad pass by PSU around the net and another turnover by PSU.

NW on the attack, and they get a free position. PSU's goalie with the block, and the ball goes OOB, so NW retains. 9 minutes left.

I just don't like the tone of the game with regards to PSU. Too many losses on the draw, and too many turnovers around the net when on the attack.

NW with a shot but it misses and PSU recovers. PSU awarded a free position, and PSU scores off the FP, 10-11, with 7:21 left.

Another timeout. Not sure if it's a TV TO, or if 1 of the teams called it (TV announcers have not indicated that all night).

And another draw control by NW.

3 seconds on a PSU defender

Shot by NW, and blocked by PSU's goalie. PSU recovers and is on the attack.

O'Donnell with the shot by PSU but it's partially blocked, and then scooped up by NW. Then they turn it over (NW players appeared to slip in a standing puddle). PSU passing around the arc. Foul by NW outside the 8, so she'll get a cleared lane. She doesn't shoot, and they are passing it around. Then PSU with a nice goal coming from behind. I believe it was Maggie Gallagher with the goal. We are tied 11-11, with 4:17 left.

PSUer had the ball on the draw, but it got checked out of her stick. Geez.

NW on the attack. Charge on NW's Esposito as she tried to roll the crease, so PSU on the attack. Lazlo feeds Madison Carter, but she turns it over in front of the NW net, and NW recovers. PSU just can not take the lead. 2 minutes left

NW turns it over while going to net. PSU's D has trouble clearing it, and then turns it over on a terrible pass, and NW goes in on an uncontested shot. NW up 11-12. 59 seconds left

PSU wins the draw! (NW leads 18-7 in draw wins)

PSU on the attack.

Dammit, PSU with a poor pass and turn it over with 32 sec left. Will need some luck to win this match.

And that's the final.

PSU probably lost a #1 seed in one of the brackets due to the loss.

Thanks Tom! Hi Ned.

histone, there was a bunch of outdoor FH matches today at USTC. The competitors may have been older than your daughter -- hard to say as I was not on the 2 fields where they were playing. Is she playing LAX this spring, or tournament FH?

That was a tough one. I would have called a time out at 2 points in the last 2 min; On the clear and again on the last possession.

Bringing the pressure on the clear is signature Northwestern. The PSU defender got cornered and needed the TO to help get out of the jam.

I don't know if PSU had a TO. If they did, it would have helped to call one on the play where PSU's D had the ball below the GLE. On that play, it would have also helped if PSU's goalie had stepped beyond the cage and called for the ball.

Hard to believe that PSU had a chance to win even with their 18-7 deficit in draw controls.

She is playing Lax and FH tough juggling them. Our Lax team does not travel too much. The girls numbers are way down for Lax the past 2 years in our area. I tried to get a team together for a few out of state tourneys and I couldn't field a team. The FH numbers are way up. I think because our area had 3 girls on the last Olympic team.

A couple of weeks ago my Kid played with the incoming St Joe's recruits and had a blast. Her team also played against them and got blasted.:) That was for FH.
