WNBA launches investigation

I think that is a bit of a stretch TBH. Reese said that people were yelling racial epithets. True or untrue, the league has no option other than to announce that they are "launching an investigation". There are microphones everywhere so it shouldn't be that hard. Sadly, if the league says they found no evidence, it won't be reported.

I mean, considering the players use vulgar language and the most famous racial slur during games to communicate with each other, it’s hard to take the people who run some of these sports leagues seriously.

If Caitlyn CLark wasn't playing you could definitely hear some from the crowd scream a racial slur, because teh crowd would be about 10% of what it is when she does play.

Not saying they should allow it, just telling the reality of the WNBA, if CC wasn't there, the league would be contracting, not expanding.

Agree except that the people who run the league don't want to piss off customers. They really have no choice but to at least give the impression that they care about things like this.

Didn't Reese, and her team mates, say some "mean things" to Clark?

Didn't Reese and her team mates go well over the line by giving some "mean" fouls, pretty much to the point of attempting to injury, to Clark? And now Reese is offended by words? Maybe Trump or someone else will call for a national pity party for Reese.....

Is the WNBA still in business?

Probably the same whites guys that attacked Jessee Smollett.

What does it have to do with the owners? It is a player issue. I dont take the players seriously. I dont even believe her.

Can't believe a word out or Reeses mouth. She's Baltimore City trash, plain and simple. Heck, many in the city can't stand her. Her brother is the opposite of her, quite, hard working, good kid. Shes a ghetto bitch.

Clark owns Reese. That's all you need to know.
This was certainly true the other night.

As a suburban Indianapolis resident, I'm not that surprised that she's sparked a lot of interest around here, but I have to admit I never saw the national response coming. When the Fever go on the road, the arenas are packed and feel like home games.

While Clark's range is ridiculous, it's her passing that makes her a great player.

It's obvious that the owners of the WNBA (which is the NBA) have been on a years long publicity push to promote the WNBA. I strongly suspect that they're encouraging or at minimum not discouraging players to create these controversies. It's all they have because the sport itself just isn't very interesting.

trying to create a version of Bird vs Magic, coming across more like big time wrestling..wnba only exists because the nba strong armed the networks, carry this crap product or lose nba broadcast rights..

The story actually originally came from a Twitter account. Reese said nothing about it until after it went viral. The original post was talking about the sound effect they play in the stadium when an opposing player is shooting a free throw…they said it was a monkey noise when it wasn’t.

I cant think of a worse place to find a racist. If there is one thing a racist would like to do, it would be to spend their hard earned money on tickets supporting a league primarily composed of black lesbian women, travel down to some urban place surrounded by many people that resemble the players, all for the opportunity to scream racist epithets at the players and league they paid to see. These aren't your run of the mill racists, these people are the hardest working racists known to mankind. Oh, and they have to suffer through terrible basketball along the way.

As I posted on another board...

One game in and already three 'controversies'

1. One lady fouled another lady

2. Some fans said some mean things

3. Some player was sleeping with the Ceo of a team.

Still noone cares
The player was not sleeping with the CEO….it was an excerpt from a lawsuit where the person being sued was accused of falsely saying it along with other inappropriate things. But the next time the WNBA gets something right, it will be the first.

For the WNBA it was positive press. The lady wasn't even a current player. Just an instagram model.

Time to launch the OnlyFans

I don't know. I hate midgets. So I often find myself going to midget wrestling shows to scream at them. I also don't like overweight tattooed strippers. But that's just how I roll.

The woman accused was a player…Sophie Cunningham from the Indiana Fever. But it never happened.

I'll admit to watching the Fever if they happen to be on while channel surfing. Caught the end of their game vs. Atlanta earlier this week.

She missed quite a few shots in crunch time- but made the key play with a remarkable pass for the clinching basket.

Their college match ups were appointment tv. I'm not there yet for WNBA but am watching much more than maybe since the Rebecca Lobo days.

It is Magic vs Larry combined with Jennifer Anniston vs Angela Jolie.

While there's no room for the racial stuff (if proven true)., the fact that we are talking about it supports an age old adage:

There is no such thing as bad publicity

I had no idea they were related until she showed up at the NCAA tourney game in Cali....and I follow hoops fairly closely.

I wonder why their relationship wasn't more widely promoted outside of their hometown? Not quite Cheryl and Reggie Miller- but in the ballpark for sure....

To each his own but I'm not even interested in watching the NBA, which is way better, much less the WNBA.

And your last line is 100% true. Publicity counts, which is why I think the WNBA either manufactures or encourages or at least doesn't discourage lots of this stuff.

The biggest problem with the WNBA is the officiating. I saw better officiating at the middle school level. It makes the games very difficult to watch. And no matter what publicity they might try to come up with, the only publicity they have is Caitlin Clark.

It was obvious from the beginning that they weren't going to find anything--it's a great way to make people hate Angel even more
The sad thing is, if she wasn't trying to be the face of the league and Chicago used her appropriately (as a backup while she develops) there wouldn't be an issue but people want a race war over nothing. She's basically the WNBA's version of John Salley or Larry Smith--best case. Play to your strengths.
Put time into real elite players like A'ja WIlson--she's what people want Reese to be.
But--we all knew there weren't any racist comments--just desperation
