along with ten other US cities (plus Toronto and Mexico in N. America).

  1. New York/East Rutherford, N.J.
  2. Philadelphia
  3. Boston/Foxborough
  4. Miami
  5. Atlanta
  6. Houston
  7. Dallas/Arlington
  8. Kansas City
  9. Los Angeles/Inglewood;
  10. San Francisco/Santa Clara
  11. Seattle

So Philly will host the World Cup, the MLB Allstar game, plus celebrate the 250th birth of the greatest nation in the history of the world!
I think England is older than that but yeah.

However, I am hoping the game ends "nil-nil".

Surprised? They are going primarily to the largest markets in the US. Surprised no Chicago, though. They must not have paid enough.

I can tell you having been involved with it in LA the Cup back in 1994 was a bust. The economic impact was nowhere near what was expected.

Chicago did not submit a bid because they didn't like FIFA's terms. Something along the lines of they didn't like the amount of money they would need to put up, FIFA kept too much revenue from the games, etc.

The city guesstimates and economic impact of something like 450 million from an estimated 450,000 visitors. My reaction is that both of those numbers are way too high.
Could not find how much the city bid. FIFA probably wants to hide those numbers.
