Would it be crazy to suggest Lamar Stevens as a tight end?

some of the best NFL tight ends in recent years have been converted college basketball players. Even Ross Travis went from Penn State basketball player to the KC Chiefs. I was thinking that Lamar Stevens is a lot more athletic than Travis and he could really test defenses. Stevens certainly has more basketball upside than Travis, but I still think he could do quite well if he gave football a try. Thoughts?

I’m thinking he might have played football in the past. I recall an interviewer joking with him about Franklin being at the game and possibly scouting players for the FB team and Stevens’ response was a laugh and something like “My FB days are over.” I don’t think Pat would be too thrilled to see him play FB.

Yes, that's a crazy idea. Just because Ross Travis made the transition; that's not necessarily a good reason for anyone else. The transition from basketball to football is very difficult for most. Most athletes don't do well in more than one sport at the higher levels.

Lamar has told the NFL teams, in no uncertain terms, that he is a QB. His implication was that, if someone was going to draft him for any other position, don't.

Of course, things change. Pryor, at one point, said similar (after nobody showed interest in him at QB).

BTW, why would a QB with aspirations to play in the NFL, go to tOSU?

Take a lap, Obli. ;)

Chris Hogan did not get your memo.

There are even DII players that made the transition.

Larry Webster played basketball at Bloomsburg. He played football his senior year and was drafted by the Lions.

Come on. How hard is it? "Lamar, the play is everybody go deep. When the ball is thrown to you, catch it. After you catch it, keep running until you get to the yellow goalpost down there."

Football. Pfft.

Are you talking about Lamar Jackson? Re-read the OP. He's asking about Lamar Stevens, the Penn State basketball player.
