Would you fire Manny Diaz right now?

Last night Miami appeared out of control on the sideline and it had a direct impact on their play.

The posing and strutting, handing out toys to young men, the coaching staff promoting and not just encouraging the behavior, took time away from sideline preparation for much needed coaching.

What’s next for Miami? Lap dances for touchdowns?

If I was their AD I would be embarrassed for my program and angry about the loss.

Welcome Dave, haven’t you seen the Canes the last 40 years?

A young, unranked team with a FR QB almost beat the number 8 team in the nation...only a moron AD would get rid of that coach at this point.

If it were pitt, the coach would have been fired after the game. CHARACTER.

I saw a coach who took a mediocre team and almost beat UF.

Bravo for him.

Miami football is about money. That chain and the rings create money.

As I mentioned in another thread... the weirdest thing I noticed last night was Franks the IF qb running up and down the sidelines.

He sucks and should be sitting and learning not trashtalking fans.

Totally agree.

Give Diaz time. The way he's recruiting, I think he'll have Miami competitive again soon. The ACC outside of Clemson and Syracuse is putrid, so there's plenty of room for Miami to grow.

Miami doesn't have the huge fan base that other traditional powers have, so they resort to the swagger to keep their profile up. That's just part of the game. And most of the time, it's completely harmless.

It's been Florida -- not Miami -- that has kept the local police stations busy the past several years. That's a bigger problem than sideline antics, IMO.

Hard to make that claim after one game.

No, it is not.

Their quarterback was awful at critical times.

Their tackling was poor, and that’s kind.

They lacked discipline and made penalty after penalty on passing D and special teams.

I would not be surprised if they are a four loss team.

It was the first game....we looked like crap our first four games in 2016 and not really great in game #5.

I agree, Miami may still win 9 or 10 games, because with the schedule they play they won’t see talent like that again unless they play Clemson in the ACC championship game.

So kids celebrating with their teammates after getting turnovers took away valuable coaching time during a game on how to tackle? C’mon now, that game was lost because their offensive line couldn’t block for 2 seconds, and 100+ penalty yards, not because some defensive players were celebrating in a fashion that offends your generation.

They were supposed to be in the game. This idea you get one game is a joke. He had frosh all over the place to boot. If anything Mullen for tossing that pick late was the dumb coaching move of the night.

they had a coach who tried to clean up that mess- and they fired him
I agree - Randy Shannon deserved better.

In any case, Miami was a big underdog, benefited from a bunch of unlikely turnovers (which has become their brand), and kept the game closer than it had any business being against a top ten team with a quarterback who hadn’t appeared in a college game before. There’s really no reason for Miami’s AD to be upset.

Florida's players, especially Franks, behaved the exact same way. This is just football in 2019 unfortunately. Joe and this fan base would have ripped Trace apart for the HR swing but many not only tolerated it but defended it. Times change. The only thing that matters is if you win or not. Golden failed in that regard. Diaz has a chance to win 8-10 games this year with that schedule in year one. He's fine.

Isn’t that vintage Miami?

Amen. Both teams behavior was atrocious and I was embarrassed for them. I don’t think young folks are embarrassed by their own behavior anymore. This generation grew up watching the generation before them consuming the highlight hour that is SportsCenter. I have no idea what the next step of self promotion will bring. For anyone to talk trash through that mistake filled slop is beyond me. The only saving grace is that it was a close game. Even the Miami kicker was horrible. He took the fake FG pitch, couldn’t even make it to the end zone, sprints across the field like he cured cancer then comes out and misses a chip shot. . Pathetic.

This is a very weird board. McSorley celebrates, dances around. He is having funny.

Miami dances around, celebrates, the coach should be fired. Lol

There kids. Let them go.

Four-loss team??? With that offensive line and qb, I doubt they will be a .500 team this year. UF is also very overrated and likely a four-loss team when it's all said and done for the year.

Only if the AD wants to go with him. Miami paid Temple $4mm to buy Diaz out of that contract. They owe him $15mm under his current five-year contract. So if someone wants to take a $20mm hit after one game, he's a braver man than Gunga Din.

Fair point. But I didn't see anyone on Fla. approaching McSorley, Barkley or Gesicki's level to enable them to make a run like we did in 2016. It looks like they have a long way to go to be competitive in the SEC let alone be one of the top 10 teams in the country. But you're right, it was only one game.

I think the Miami stuff on the sideline is silly. Really silly. But IMHO they lost that game because they had the worst OL performance I have ever seen, and that includes our effort against Temple in 2015, and because they're QB looked like he was making his first start. That game was close only because Florida is so undisciplined.

So what did we decide? Are we firing diaz? It would be awesome if we fired a coach on opening weekend, and before the first full Saturday schedule of the season at that.

I know the kicker missed a chip shot earlier, but he’s supposed to be good. My only issue with Diaz is that he went for it on 4th and 9 from the 30 instead of trying to field goal to make it a 1 point game so they didn’t need a TD when they got it back. Had they done that, they could’ve kicked a FG there at the end to win instead of having to go for it.

That’s the logic that lost us the Kentucky game. That will always annoy me that Trace didn’t have the opportunity to finish that epic comeback.

Check out Miami's schedule. I wouldn't even be shocked if they won 10. I wouldn't be shocked if they went 5-7 in the Big Ten East but in the ACC Coastal they can definitely have a great season on paper
