Wouldn't it be nice if all the time, money, energy and brain power used over the past two years used to investigate Russian Collusion was applied instead to solve a meaningful problem like access to health care, the opioid epidemic, school safety, the exploding national debt, affordable access to higher education, etc. All the true problems our society faces seem to have been put on hold to intensely investigate the possibility of Russian interference in the last election.
Why is this such a high priority that it supplants any interest in other problems? I think I understand why:
Why is this such a high priority that it supplants any interest in other problems? I think I understand why:
- The agenda our political leaders (Republicans and Dems) follow is dictated by the media. The Russia story is too juicy for the media to pass up. The media (CNN, Fox, ABC, everyone) is obsessed with the story. The politicians dance to the tune the media plays.
- The political theater of the Russia investigation is easy for the politicians to talk about and take positions on. Solving real problems is hard work. Politicians are lazy and don't like hard work. Firing off a soundbite or two on the Russia investigation is quick and easy and brainless.
- Our political leaders (Republicans and Dems) really don't care at all if our significant social problems are solved. They really don't care about the well being of American citizens. They view politics as a game to win, as if they were playing bridge. They just want to win the argument, no matter what the argument is. The safety and well being of our citizens are meaningless to them.
