Iowa match. Great upper body D by Young by working through the throw and hitting one himself. Move of the week. Desanto did a good job. Too bad about the antics and after match BS. Lee still looks off – was good for the interview – just doesn’t seem to fire a lot.

OSU – Fix match was a letdown. Didn’t see Smith do anything wrong but imagine he started getting caught up with the environment… Nothing else to say as it has already been said…

PSU – well would have lost by Gavin bet. Want to continue to see improvement from RBY, especially on top. Nick is ok, just stubborn. The OSU transfer was ready but I agree and would like to see Nick set some other shots up. Thought Berge had his match won…he wrestled hard and should still gain confidence with his shooting… What were the odds that Nolf, Hall, Nickal, Shak don’t get a pin? Hall had a nice throw and was surprised he couldn’t stick the smaller guy. Cassar was solid and looks good – super solid win for him. Team looked a bit sluggish but Wisky had a good game plan of which PSU didn’t really break through it.

DeSanto antics at end of match and then post match very problematic. He gave an extra shove to the head as he was getting up after the buzzer, then slapped hand away for handshake and was mouthy. Not sure the coaching he will receive is going to help him, but not sure how his antics are going to tolerated at tournament time.

How hard is it to be magnanimous in victory?

Pretty sure Lizak called out DeSanto on twitter and “double dog dared” him to take down, which DeSanto did and reversed him.

No problem with DeSanto giving it back to him.

Let's face it: nothing will be done about it, so by definition it will be tolerated.

At least that's what the evidence says.

Justin Oliver lost today to WV's Monserrat. Oliver beat him by TF earlier this year.

If you go by the number of repeat offenders at Iowa, there's absolutely no evidence the coaches have a problem with his antics.
Exactly. Its at least tolerated, but it could be argued that they encourage it.

Its ok we hate U too.......

Which is fine when you're winning. But mental stability is a key to wrestling three days in March and he's shown that it's not hard to get into his head. Tom and Terry's challenge was to get him to a place where he won't unravel again, more so than making him a better wrestler; it wasn't because his wrestling ability fell short that he didn't AA last year. A lot of people made the point at the time he transferred that Tom and Terry's amped edginess might be fuel to the fire and so far that's not looking wrong. Book isn't closed yet though.

pretty sure Iowa lost a team point today as well...

Give it back to him on Twitter.

Conversely, the hr view was tnts fatherly mentorship would cure him.

Very bad look by Desanto, he must have taken that fake tweet seriously as he did choose down. Good match for Desanto, horrible sportsmanship. For Desanto though that is a big improvement, no attempt at breaking limbs. No showmanship from Steveson, probably cause he gassed. A better wrestler could have beaten him today.

If you hypothetically assume a healthy Joseph and make a 3-point adjustment for PSU at 165, you wind up with a 27 - 10 win for the good guys against a mediocre B1G opponent just coming off a 1-point criteria loss at RU. A decent showing, but definitely still some work to do. Had wondered a little bit about the caliber of opponents Lee had faced to date at 141. Today it might've caught up to him, but a guess would be that in the long run he'll learn and improve himself from the loss. Berge's very young and will likely get better as he gains B1G experience and strength.

So, two conference wins in the books with Top-10 Nebraska coming to town next Sunday. We'll see where this all goes ...

Nick MUST stop guys from countering his shots. Think it’s better for him to go double leg instead of single. Guys are just waiting to counter him and it works with the better guys. He was up by 2 in regulation and didn’t even need to shoot. Kid already countered him twice. Hope the Coaches make the adjustments with him. He needs to realize the score and time at all times.

Yes, and if Nick Lee has a bit more situational awareness, it becomes a 30-7 PSU win. But playing the "if" game accomplishes nothing.

Regarding Berge, agree that he lacks strength and horse power. Could it be that he's too sucked down at 149? Anyway, can't see the strength factor changing much in the next couple months.

THIS got into DeSanto's head?

Steveson was interviewed by Shane Sparks after his bout. From what I have seen of him so far, he has the potential to evoke Downey-level disdain from the masses in the coming years. Just a complete tool. I also get the impression he will prove to be a handful to coach (e.g., he blamed today's performance on not listening to his coaches about how he should be warming up). Desanto to me is different. Clearly, he's "misfiring" a bit when it comes to being able to manage his behavior, but I'm not sure this is something he can control.

NOT shooting is NOT in Lee's DNA.
Shooting is fine. He did this last year against the better competition. They kept countering his shoots. At the end of the year the coaches worked with him on adjustments.

I was pleasantly surprised with Stevenson's interview, he took responsibility for his less than expected results....so no showboating. I'm not pleased with Desanto's sportsmanship and try not to be blinded by the fact he's a Hawkeye, but he's still a work in progress.

Seriously??? Desanto is the mother of all tools and a thug! You can’t even compare him and Stevenson. Your example to dis Stevenson is him saying he should have listened to coaches? C’mon, you have to be kidding me!

Actually, I'm taking everything I've seen from Steveson this year into account (White, Colucci, Corbin). He acted like a complete jackass against both White and Colucci.

I'm in the camp of those that don't like Steveson's antics on the mat. But I came away with a little more patience and, to my surprise, respect for the kid after watching his Flo interview after the CKLV tourney linked below ($$$ paywall). He talked about some of the backlash he's been getting and may have even made a reference to Mark Hall (I think).

When asked what he means by wanting to “break people,” Steveson said:

"In a match, just make him give up. Not really just trying to ‘fool’ him. I know a lot of people thinking I’m just ‘fooling’ people, and a lot of people think I’m just being a hard head on the mat. But that’s just my style. It’s just what I do for 7 minutes, and if this gets posted I want people to know, I’m good off the mat. I know a lot of people are hating out there. ‘Oh Gable’s this, Gable’s that. He’s a punk.’ I see it but it don’t really bother me. I’m just wrestling my hardest on the mat and doing my own thing.”

I assume he's using the word "fool" to mean "make a fool of." He also said:
“Me cutting someone hard is just wrestling. It’s like, I’m not hurting someone. I’m not shaming them."

The possible Mark Hall reference comes 55 seconds into the interview. When asked how's he learned to not let stuff get to him, Steveson said: “Watching Mark wrestle, we’ve been in the same practice room for a long time. He’s so calm, structured in how he wrestles. I try to put that into my style.”

I know he and Mark are good friends and I'm unaware of another Mark in the Minnesota room. So, I'm assuming that's a ref to Mark Hall.

Glad to see a Pennsylvania kid like Kaleb Lee showing Iowa people how to lay it on the line & wrestle.

And win.
