"Of note was the fact that without the Grapple on the Gridiron, Penn State would likely have ended Iowa’s run at the top."

Don't really care about attendance records myself, the only prize that's important happens in March.

There's no denying the interest in PSU Wrestling is off the charts, though, so from a fan standpoint, we could rehash the same arguments about moving to the BJC.

You would think the folks at BJC would find a way to make it happen. Men's BB attendance at BJC isn't that much more, on average, than wrestling at Rec Hall. Wouldn't they want to get the fannies in the seats at BJC on a more regular basis? I have a hunch wrestling would get higher attendance than BBall.

They have a lot more than just bball games in the BJC. Concerts, commencement, Thon, just off the top of my head.

I think it was a down year for Iowa in attendance. There were a lot of major events in Iowa City this year that may have brought down there dual attendance. Non die hard fans probably attended Grapple, Big Ten's and Olympic Trials and stayed home during the regular duals cause frankly the rivalry and competition was weak. No PSU, tOSU, and ISU. Also Minny was weak team last year that it didn't draw as big of a crowd. I expect Iowa attendance to be better this year with ISU, PSU, and tOSU at carver and no major events to hold out and go to.

Also women's hoops, career fairs, concerts, a few other items.

Bears repeating: PSU struck a deal with the devil to get Hbg funding for BJC construction. BJC is a PSU subsidiary. M/W hoops get schedule priority and are the only sports that do not have to rent the facility.

The break-even point is very high -- something over 11k heads. We'll always get that for Iowa, Ohio State, etc. I suspect fewer fans will be motivated to drive thru ice in Jan/Feb for Indiana, NW, Michigan State, etc.

Maybe someday we'll get there, but incremental progress makes sense.

I'm really not concerned about PSU attendance -- our program is in good shape. It's other programs' viability...

So it was encouraging to see that Cornell increased attendance and still got passed by a few programs. Hopefully that's a sign of attendance growing across the sport.

.

Ummm..... the basketball programs most certainly do rent the facilities. Do you really think that the BJC allows them to use the office space, locker rooms, practice & training spaces and the arena for free?

Yes. The deal with Harrisburg was that the building was constructed specifically for basketball usage. B10 admittance was conditional upon a new basketball arena.

....and the Athletic Department pays a $hitload of rent to use the BJC for basketball.
