SIAP, but I read this board pretty closely and never saw anything about this...

A wrestling match took place last night on the USS Midway in San Diego, between Air Force and Fresno State, complete with a two jet flyover before the match and bagpipes. J Rob, Robby Smith and Dan Gable were on deck.

Air Force won 24-12. AJ Nevills gets a 7-2 decision.

I see now that in Roar's weekly matches post, it was mentioned as the location, but I missed it.

Steiner, pitching this to the Navy: So, I was thinking that it would be pretty cool to have a match on the Midway. Maybe some bagpipes, at night.
Navy guy: How about we arrange a flyover during the anthem?

The held a b-ball "classic" here in Charleston on the Yorktown a few years back, but had to suspend play because the court was sweating too badly to continue play. I would love to see them do the same with wrestling, as they wouldn't have those issues. Maybe open with a dual or 2 duals between the better local high school teams (also some of the top ranked teams in the state) like Fort Dorchester, Ashley Ridge, Summerville and Wando. Then have The Citadel and someone they could be competitive with and finish up with a couple of top flight programs.

The area is growing rapidly because of the growing job market with a lot of folks moving from the North. As a result wrestling and the interest in wrestling is steadily growing here. This type of thing could only help and would be fantastic exposure for the sport in the Southeast and would be awesome to see.

Gotta keep the mat far from the deck edge in case Terry says "throw me" again.
