Ah. Ohio State "came out flat"! That explains the loss. FFS.

Following the match, head coach Tom Ryan mentioned that it is impossible to come out flat against a team like Penn State if you have any hope of securing a victory. “I thought we wrestled really well in certain spots,” Ryan said, “but when we lose focus and take mental breaks, that leads to big points. Take a look at Micah Jordan; he wrestled Retherford really well, but lost focus for a few seconds on two occasions and Retherford turned those breaks into six point moves. We can’t have that if we have any shot at beating them"

Same guy who sits his son to avoid him getting wrecked by Nolf. What a puss family.

Jake Ryan was not in the lineup to face top-ranked Jason Nolf, so Anthony DeCarlo made the most of the opportunity.

Watched the match. Total beat down but the BTN is so biased. The majority of the match, all they wanted to talk about was OSU. They are so enamored with them. Snyder was named outstanding wrestler of the match. He is a great wrestler but in a beat down like that, a few PSU guys stood out. As always, we will just go to work and be on top in the end... #WeAre

Wasn't Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles?

Snyder did wrestle the #3 HWT Nick Nevills.

Nevills is still improving imo. However, Snyder is an exceptional talent at Heavyweight. He has incredible speed and agility, for smooth takedowns. He has an "it" factor that is very rare at HWT. A pleasure to watch him wrestle in college, while he is also the reigning World and Olympic Champion.

Snyder just won the World Championship in Russia, considered by some as the toughest tournament.

Overall, Snyder was a worthy consideration. When you consider it was at tOSU, don't have a problem with him as the outstanding wrestler of the dual meet.

Others' mileage may vary.

I agree, Snyder is the real deal. Just felt PSU should have gotten more credit overall, especially considering all the bonus points they racked up. I guess my real beef is with the BTN commentators. So biased... As usual...

Article and video of Chris Snyder winning the World Championship last week.

Remember - While he wrestled for the Bucknuts now, he is OUR US Gold Medalist and World Champ.

Enjoy!

I give them a pass for 2 reasons. 1) I don't care 2) When they do that, I look at it as humping the rest of the conference and ncaa wrestling in general. They know how good PSU is. Wrestling is on the uptick, but there were times when we probably worried about PSU having someone to wrestle in the future. It's just words.

Tom Ryan might have attributed the loss to "coming out flat", but the OSU fans aren't buying it. Their wrestling forum posters are acknowledging that they just aren't up to PSU's level and most likely won't be for the next few years.

Your choice of course.

Personally like those two announcers.
You might enjoy turning down the TV volume and listening to PSU radio announcer Ironhead Byers. He is fantastic, imo.

Both teams last night, have great talent and national champs. Heard this morning that combined starters at PSU and tOSU have 17 ranked wrestlers and multiple National Champions.

OH St didn't present two of their best guys, but even so, that was a huge smack down by the Nittany Lions. They should be listed as the #1 team this week. Awesome firepower on the Penn State team.

How did Snyder get away to OSU?

Good question.

Per very knowledgeable wrestling poster El-Jefe in The Wrestling Room...

He had a "final 6 schools" list: PSU, Tanning Bed U [ie OH ST], Maryland, Army (his older brother went to West Point). Can't remember the other 2 schools (maybe Oklahoma and George Mason?).

Anyway, he committed on Jan 1 of his JR year. Stated at the time he went to tOSU for the Ohio RTC [Regional Training Center] HWT training partners. At the time they had Dlagnev, Rowlands, and a few other guys.

PSU has continued to strengthen their excellent RTC, including upper weight Olympic Gold Medalist Jake Varner.

Snyder - I think - is pretty much the "most outstanding wrestler" in any event he participates in....... PSU has had their share of guys like that in the past
