For the wrestling fans, you might already be familiar with this, or at least have been wondering about it. As you can see from the photo below (credit: Instagram) the nation's top wrestling recruit – Mark Hall – visited Penn State this weekend.
It was for an official visit, and it was his second visit to PSU in the last couple months. Not that I was trying to hold out on you here, but this official visit has been scheduled since the last time he was on campus in August, a visit in which he toured the football facilities among other things. However, since I haven't had any luck directly contacting Hall or anyone from his camp, I couldn't put a report out there as I was asked to keep the visit quiet until talking to him. I tried finding him on the sideline this weekend at the game, but to no avail, and again I haven't been able to contact him since. Then this morning it was brought to my attention that Hall had posted a picture of his visit, standing alongside PSU true freshman Cenzo Joseph in Beaver Stadium, on his Instagram account. So there's the confirmation needed for us.
For those unfamiliar, Hall wrestles for Apple Valley (Minn.) and is ranked the No. 1 pound-for-pound high school wrestler in the country by FloWrestling.com. Nicknamed "The Prodigy", Hall is one of the most surefire college prospects to come out of HS since maybe David Taylor. (Those who know wrestling better than me, correct me if I'm wrong there.) For a little more recent background on Hall, check out this story.
Hall tweeted recently that he'll be making his college decision on Nov. 11 live on FloWrestling.com. I know he's also visited Minnesota and Wisconsin recently, and is expected to visit Ohio State this weekend or next. Arizona State, Nebraska and Iowa are three other schools said to be in the mix, but I have not confirmed if he's taken or plans to take official visits to any of those programs yet. However, I've heard on a few occasions, as recently as yesterday, that Penn State should feel good about its chances with Hall. I'm not into making predictions for wrestling recruits, especially one I haven't spoken with yet, but there are a lot of signs pointing toward a PSU commitment next month. Again, a lot could change, especially if he takes other visits between then and now, but as of now Penn State has done a terrific job putting itself in a solid position here.
Hall projects to wrestle 174/184 pounds in college.
