Couldn't pass up this matchup of high school powers in my back yard, especially with a couple PSU recruits in the mix. Great dual, came down to the last match. Bergen had a lot of fans make the trip so it was a very exciting atmosphere.

Suriano and Manville both wrestle angry. They may have a hard time adapting to Cael's fun mentality, lol. Nick looks like a huge 126, and I really hope he can maintain 125 for next year. He will be college ready.

I honestly think Suriano could give Nico a tough match, due to their similarities as wrestlers. Both of them are nearly impossible to take down (slight advantage to Nico, but Fix was unable to take Suriano down in a 30 min match) and both are relentless on bottom and can get out quickly (again slight advantage to Nico). The key difference between them is that Suriano is a hammer on top, something Nico is not. I'm not saying Suriano would beat Nico every time, but I think if they wrestled 10 times Suriano could win more than 1 zero takedown match in sudden victory. I think Suriano will come in as a true freshmen and have the same sort of impact and run at Nationals that Nico displayed in his freshman campaign. We are very fortunate and should thank Cael that we can replace two great wrestlers in Nico and Jordan with quality like Nick and Jered.

You are asking a lot. As excited as fans are regarding Suriano (me too!!), there's an enormous difference between college and high school wrestling. Young Mr. Suriano will be an entirely different wrestler at the end of his first year of wrestling in our room, but right now I'd go with the 2-time finalist and 3x AA all-day, every day.

How do you think true freshman Suriano would do against true freshman Nico? I think Suriano is capable of finding himself in the finals.

Some of you don't pay attention to everything posted on this board.

I've mentioned in other posts that I spoke with Suriano at Flo Who's No. 1 Duals. He's planning to go 125 next year. I promised Nick that I wouldn't be quoting him, so I can't give specfic details of what he said. However, he did tell me his walking around weight. Unless he has an unexpected growth spurt, 125 will not be a problem next fall. (And for those worried about a growth spurt, I also met and spoke with Nick's dad. Based on his height/weight, I would not bet on a growth spurt taking place with Nick.)

Suriano will not have any problem maintaining 125 for next year. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by him being a "huge 126." He's about the same size as Nico.

The eye test is notoriously unreliable for weights. Kids that are closer to their walking around weight tend to look bigger than kids that have really hard cuts IMO. Longer kids with broad shoulders often look bigger. Kids with large cores look smaller, etc, etc.

Any talk today of Suriano making the NCAA finals as a true freshman is insane. Anything is possible, but let's review the facts:
1. Nico did -- after finishing 5th at B10s. He was the #10 seed.
2. Smack finished 1-2 at nationals. He was unseeded.
3. Zain finished 5th at nationals. He was the #3 seed.

That's just on our team. Now let's consider some recent true freshmen elsewhere:
- Andrew Campolattano, #1 at his HS weight, 4x NJ champ, 1 career loss -- Round of 12.
- Taylor Massa, #1 overall recruit -- #12 seed, Round of 12.
- Myles Martin was #1 at his HS weight. Anyone not named Gregory Martin think he's a finalist this year?

Etc. The fact is, college wrestling is incredibly more difficult than HS wrestling. This isn't like starting a rookie NFL QB. This is more like a rookie baseball player making the All-Star team after skipping the minors.

If he has 1 or 2 losses at this time next year, then maybe. Today? About a year premature.

Is the kid who Reenan beat the same McKenzie that made a huge deal about continuing his HS wrestling/football at Bergen Catholic? It has to be, right?

That was so ridiculous.

Geez Tom, I guess I'm guilty as charged. I don't get the chance to read every post and article in every thread although I do try.

Glad to hear that Suriano will absolutely, unequivocally, without a doubt, be able to make 125 next year.

David Taylor got destroyed by Cyler Sanderson at the beginning of his true freshman year. College is a big jump for even the best of the best.
