These kids take prescriptions because they seem less looked down upon than your average crack-head or heroine-doper. We need to have these conversations with kids.

One of my old teammates was all set to walk-on at a midwest D2 school. Pretty straight-laced kid. Got with a girl who had a kid, had a kid of his own with her, and ended up with 2 stints in rehab off heroine because he got hooked on pills after an injury. He got a job at the local walmart, now.

Keep lines of communication open with the youth. The less light you shed upon this sort of stuff, the more users feel alone in the shadows, unwilling to ask for help.
