Is Coquese on the hot seat yet?
No one really cares about men's basketball either. She would be on a hot seat but no one really cares about women's basketball (compared to men's basketball).

Really?? I totally disagree, and am sure many others do too, with that statement. No one really cares about men's basketball either.

Apparently people don't care as they believe Chambers gets another 3-5 years before people can be critical. And that he's not accountable for any recruiting class prior to the last one. I mean, I guess it depends how you define "care".

Well that's nice. Just don't use your viewpoints to say that people don't care about the men's basketball program.I care more about Women's Volleyball than Men's Basketball.
I'm always open to re-evaluate things. Give me reason. I lived in Hamilton in the early 80's and walked across the street and went to every game. My friend Tommy was a star, and things were fun regardless of the team's record. Why isn't it like that for today's student body? BTW - I spent a year in SC during the Crispin years at the BJC and it was still a poor environment.Well that's nice. The only good thing about the BJC is that it's useful life is probably half over.
How old is Rec Hall?
Said nobody, ever.

So, Chambers is to blame for the fact the upper-classmen contribute very little? Because countless people have created excuses for him. Also, we've been told it's unfair to be critical of him this year...maybe next year but we all know that will change and then we'll hear the young players "are only freshmen".
This entire thing started because people are ready to run Washington out of town (19-9, 9-7) but those same people continually create excuse after excuse for Chambers. You can't have it both ways.
Someday, hopefully, Chambers or another coach will get the men's team to the level of the women's team--which isn't really asking much. It's asking to be average.
BJC is more than 20 years, right? It's not really clear how long the 90s-era arenas will last. My guess is they start going away around 2030. They were cheaply built and nobody likes them.
As for Rec Hall - the answer is renovate. It's in the right location and it's got about the right sizing.
I was actually impressed with the Lady Lions for the first time in a long time today.I question whether they would renovate the BJC rather than build a new arena.
Rec Hall obviously still serves a purpose. It's also historic and just looks right on in a beautiful part of campus. Love live Rec Hall.

- Page, their star, had an off day. Carter, Spann and Thomas picked up the slack.
- When Cheatigan got hot from 3, they started trapping to unsettle the offense and double teaming their post player, a good coaching move.
- Carter won the game with her perimeter defense and then hitting a two followed by a 3 to tie it in the final minute. I believe Carter is just a freshman and Page a sophomore.
- They have to make FT's. You cannot blame Coquese for them missing 4 FT's in the last minute or so.
Yes, of course he is.
The people who defend Chambers (including me) realize two things:
1) he has gotten players from Philadelphia to actually consider and accept offers from Penn State, instead of rolling on the floor laughing, which was the norm for decades. He accomplished this by building relationships between coaches and his staff. It took years to do this since previous PSU coaches did not even try (i.e., Dunn saying PA had no good players; DeChellis content to try and figure out who other schools overlooked in NY/OH/IN).
2) Undoing this progress by replacing him right now would be a horrendous move. Transfers would be inevitable. I have no doubt that Sandy would try to bring in a proven coach but I'm not convinced she'd totally get the geographic dynamic. Most knowledgeable observers would say the best move for PSU right now is keep Pat Chambers.
I'll say this. He has the pieces to go to the NCAA in 2018 (next season). Anything short of that and I'm not sure he should be retained.
Speak for yourself! No one really cares about men's basketball either.
If we don't finish in the first half of the Big Ten and with a winning conference record next year he has to go. If that doesn't get us in the NCAAs that's fine but no more of this bottom third of the Big Ten. It's unacceptable--freshman-loaded or not
I understand the points your making...you seem to think those 2 things trump everything else right now. I don't. This is about as bad as we've seen the Big Ten and we're not anywhere near where any coach should be this far into his tenure.
Washington has the women in good shape. Lots of younger players and they're winning games with those younger players
I think the attendance numbers (as well as the cable sports views of a half empty arena) speak for themselves.Speak for yourself!
Penn State men's basketball average attendance is at least double that of women's volleyball (~6500 vs ~3200).I think the attendance numbers (as well as the cable sports views of a half empty arena) speak for themselves.
Nothing gets by you, huh? 1) what's the ROI on each sport? 2) what's the attendance of each sport as compared to other top level programs? 3) Nothing gets by you, huh?Penn State men's basketball average attendance is at least double that of women's volleyball (~6500 vs ~3200).
I'm not sure what you mean - in terms of ROI, men's basketball turns a $5,000,000 profit, and women's volleyball loses money for the athletic department. And while women's volleyball is ranked higher in its sport in terms of attendance, it's objectively true that more people watch and attend men's basketball games than they attend women's volleyball games. That's not denigrating the sport in the least, it's just reality.Nothing gets by you, huh? 1) what's the ROI on each sport? 2) what's the attendance of each sport as compared to other top level programs? 3) Nothing gets by you, huh?
