Yelp ranks Pittsburgh in Top Ten of Foodie Cities

This article is poorly written, but I will say that Pittsburgh has absolutely exploded on the trendy food scene in the last 10-15 years. When I travel for work or vacation, the difference is now very noticeable. I Don't even know how all these places can survive in a smaller city. Pittsburgh deserves to be on this list. Maybe just not for the reasons listed in the article.

i've aways thought Pittsburgh had the cleanest and best maintain Burger Kings in the nation.

Seriously, ate at Pamalas and despite my disappointment it wasn't run by Pam Anderson, the food and atmosphere was awesome.

I don’t know if Pittsburgh is a good food town. Doubt it’s among the best in the US but who knows. Haven’t been there enough to opine either way.

What I can say is that after all the decades of assuming Pittsburgh stunk, and my visit there as a student was the drab and rainy and crappy weather I expected, every time I’ve been there in the past 15 or so years, I’ve been impressed.
Yup, I'm not from Pittsburgh originally but have really enjoyed my time here. The weather stinks, but other than that, Pittsburgh has a lot going for it.

As for food, I think it's definitely a good food town but yeah, ultimately, I don't think any city Pittsburgh's size is probably in the top 10. Maybe a city with a really unique specialty like New Orleans and cajun. But the sheer size of NYC, LA, Philly, etc. mean a lot more options.

Isn’t Yelp just a collection of users ratings? So maybe Pittsburgh residents have an overinflated view of themselves compared to othe places

I’ve lived in Chicago, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Philly.

I have spent extensive time traveling around/eating in New Orleans, Orlando, Atlanta, Vegas, Richmond (bleh), Milwaukee and Minneapolis.

Minny is my favorite spot. So many great places

We make the best Lutefisk Neapolitan pizzas;)

This. The vast majority of my family lives there. They frequently remind me how they're ranked first in pretty much everything.

I've spent the majority of my time in recent years in Philly and NYC, every time they tell me how much better Pittsburgh is. I no longer argue.

Interesting. I live in SD and the food scene is ok. But doesn’t seem to hold a candle to Philly.
I concur... lived there for 11 yrs. Outside of Mexican food what is there? Otherwise nowhere near what’s on the east coast and upper Midwest.

I have friends in San Diego and Ocean Side and usually visit about every other year.
San Diego has awesome Mexican food and I've had some really good Thai and Seafood but outside of that its not what
I would consider a "foodie" city.
Now the Craft Beer Brewing scene is crazy. :D

Jealous much?

LOL!![/QUOTE It’s the practice they use. If you don’t advertise with them. They will take some of the Positive reviews. And suppress them. And continue to have the negative reviews up front. And try and strong arm you into giving them money. And then they magically let the good reviews to the front.

Cafe Lurcot in Minneapolis is fantastic. We had my daughter’s wedding reception there. FWIW it was a favorite of Prince who was from the TC and was the last place he dined before he died. There’s also a great place for seafood that was voted best lobster rolls in the USA called the Smack Shack. And as someone posted you should go to Brits if just for a pint and see the Lawn Bowling courts up on the roof. Truly one of the more unique settings of any bar that I’ve been to.

Yes we are very provincial in Minnesota. Admittedly many of us think the world revolves around us. With that said, we do have some solid restaurants in the Twin Cities. Top ten? Not sure about that.

I happen to be a real foodie, one of those who hate the word foodie.

Your first issue here is the credibility of Yelp, which is useless.

As for top food cities in this country, the top five in any order are New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and New Orleans. The second five in any order are Washington DC, Las Vegas, Charleston, Seattle, and Portland (tie) or Houston (tie).

Pittsburgh doesn't even compete with Nashville, Austin, San Diego, Miami, or California Wine Country.

Expand the list to include all of North America and Montreal might top the list, with Toronto and Vancouver in the top ten.

Make no mistake, Yelp is not authoritative at all. Yelp is to food appreciation what the National Inquirer is to serious journalism.

Where do you eat in when in Pittsburgh? And Minneapolis?

I have relatives in Cranberry Township, so I've eaten at a few places that I consider passable, like Cure, Legume, Spoon, Stagioni....Primanti Brothers just plain sucks.

I've never been to Minneapolis.

Just an example of how I roll, one week ago today I dined at Saison in San Francisco. It was worth all 3 of its Michelin stars, probably on a par with the other 3-stars I've enjoyed, like The Inn at Little Washington and The French Laundry. Pittsburgh doesn't have anything close to these kinds of restaurants.

You should come to Portland if you haven't been yet.
