Your predictive analysis of the Wisconsin-Notre Dame game?

Provided Mertz doesn't crap the bed, you have to like the combination of Wisconsin's run game and defense.

ND. Not because they are better but because something will happen that turns it NDs way. Stupid penalty, unfortunate turnover, bad call... something will go NDs way.

The game is in Chicago, but UW fans will travel, so should be a pretty neutral atmosphere (maybe UW lean).

On defense, I have UW as #2 in rushing success and ND as 124 on offense.
In fact, I have UW top 12 in defensive rushing explosiveness, pass success, power success, line yards and finishing drives. ND offense is 65, 78, 122, 122, and 92 in those categories.

UW doesn't enjoy as big margins on offense vs ND defense. Their biggest advantage is in passing success (#13 vs #50). If UW can dink and dunk down the field and not turn the ball over, I think they can squeak out a win of more than 6.5 points (wink wink).

Who do you think will win and why?
This is a tough one. Coan is a better QB than Mertz, but ND has lost both starting tackles and the rest of their OL is young. That makes them vulnerable to the Wisconsin DL & LBers. However, ND does a good job of getting their RBs in space to use their speed and they like to use their TE. Wisconsin has secondary problems.
The Wisconsin offense will have to throw the ball, but must try to work away from ND All American Safety, Hamilton. Dude is a fabulous player.
This game, like our game against Wisconsin comes down to turnovers and if ND can exploit the Wisconsin secondary like PSU did in the 2nd half.

I can't pick a winner.

ND has dodged some bullets, hopefully not so tomorrow.

ND’s Hamilton has been playing NFL Pro Bowl level at D, scary scary good.

Go Wiscy, beat the Irish!

0-3 FSU took the Irish to OT.

Barely beat a 1-2 Toledo by 3.

Decent win vs Purdue.

Unless this is one of those Irish teams that matches the level of competition, Wisconsin probably wins by 10.

A Wisconsin win would be great, but I’m afraid that the badgers are too one dimensional on offense and Kelly will find enough offense to score on the tough Jim Leonard D.

I don't think there will be a Wisconsin lean in the crowd, at best 40% for Wisky. I remember when PSU played ND at home and 25% of PSU fans were ND fans when they played us.

comes down to which Wisconsin QB throws more interceptions. Both Coan and Mertz fully capable and likely to throw the game away. Keep in mind Coan left Wiscy because he could not beat out Mertz, after having been the starter. And Mertz has shown himself to be an interception throwing machine, with poor game prep. So.......

I like Wisconsin to win by 10, the old Hostetler phrase not good enough to start at PSU not good enough to beat PSU. Same applies to Coen. Wisconsin knows all the little details about his tendencies.

Florida St. ran rampant against ND and FSU is really bad.

Wisconsin should have 300yds against ND, some zone passes underneath with a eye on Fergeson.

ND has better passing game (Coan > Mertz)
WI has better running game
WI has a better defense
ND is better at finding a way to win

Toledo would have beat ND if they would have stopped on the 5 yard line instead of scoring a go ahead TD with 2 minutes remaining. Reminded me of when PSU scored with a minute remaining against Indiana last year.

Wisconsin #13 in passing success and 129 in passing explosiveness
ND #78 in passing success and 19 in passing explosiveness

ND has faced better competition overall (probably), but Wisky has faced a much better opponent than any of NDs. I'd call the passing game a wash based on stats to date - maybe a slight edge to ND.

I think the Badgers will win. I have not been impressed with what I've seen out of ND. I don't see an advantage for either team playing in Chicago - both fan bases "travel" well especially when both are so close to the venue.
However, I almost always wager on ND so I have something to be happy about either way ("Yea, ND lost" vs. "Well, at least I won the bet").

I 100% agree. ND travels better than any team in the country (partially due to there being many Catholics who latch onto ND as their team) and there are tons of ND fans and alums in the Chicago area.

I will be one of the few neutral fans there, a buddy just called me this morning and offered me a free ticket. How could I say no?!?!

Traditionally when penn state needs someone to win for our strength of schedule, they lose. Boise State went to Wyoming and got trounced. ND 35 Wisconsin 21.

I wouldn't know whether I like it or not. I've never seen it and never will, due to my distaste for all things ND.

I make Trump Derangement Syndrome look like a mild case of pms.
