You're Jeff Brohm...

I think, not sure, I heard Purdue under Jeff Brohm has been victorious the last three times they played a team ranked in the top 5. If that's true, I'd say the odds are about to catch up with them.

Yep, the "spoilermakers" they call themselves. Underdogs for sure. I recognize a UM win is what we currently need for Rose Bowl bid. But dang, I luv when the BCS gets shaken up. A close game at least would be nice.

Let’s poach his speech….whatever it is.

Gentlemen, we are about to take the field against the very best team in the Big Ten this season. Perhaps the best team in America. We only need to be better for 60 minutes. You have been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to shock the world and gain immortality. This is the moment we've all dreamed of since we fell in love with the game of football.

I've given well over 130 locker room pregame speeches, on a much smaller stage....LOL
In 1978 as a 4th year head coach I was confronted with opening the season against the 3 time defending league champions.
My record at that time was 9-20. What made matters worse was the fact that my top assistant had left to take the head coaching position at that very school.
It was fair to say the locker room was divided at that point in time (between those players that would have preferred he stayed or I stayed....he was respected, especially by our lineman ).
We sequestered our team in a classroom and I made the only reference to the coach that left....telling the team that if I didn't believe in them....I would have been the HC of the opponent. I then briefly referenced Don Quixote,
and had them listen to a tape of "The Impossible Dream." Knowing that it may if been "too deep" for some, I finished up playing the theme from "Rocky." Since it was 1978, most of the kids were into that.
Before I put that on....I told them not to come out until they were "ready to win."
My assistants and I left. After about a minute and a half, I heard desks and chairs flying. Let's just say that it was a good thing we won (28-6)...both for my career and making it easier to explain the mess in my classroom. LOL
It was the turning point for my coaching career and I got to give the game ball to my Dad who was present that day.

I don't think old school motivational tactics work like they used to because the dynamics of the players in sport have changed so much.
Players know they are exploited by nearly entity surrounding them, be it little league coaches with an agenda all the way to professional sports organizations and mass media. Due to the proliferation of youth training facilities/academies/camps most of players today train and or practice together year round. This provides a sense of player unity like never before. Everyone knows everyone whether they go to different school or play on a different team because of the year round training and the off season travel teams that bring together kids from many different areas. The player/team hate of yesteryear is limited to the fans these days. The hate is a fan game now-a-days, not a player game. The players are united in sports now, they want each other to succeed, get scholarships and "get paid." Its a different mentality that has different motivations and like it or not it's for the better. The old school hate, knock the other teams head off and vandalize the facility on the way out is over....Thankfully.

Just beat them up in a tunnel instead.

Boys, today is our day. No one respects us, no one believes in us and no one and I mean no one expects us to win. The only people who believe in us, are in this room. We have an opportunity to make a statement , a statement to everyone who believes that we have no business being here. We have the opportunity to prove them all wrong. Gentleman , life is about seizing moments when they present themselves. Its never easy and its going to take each and everyone of you playing the best football you ever played. Play your game, know your responsibilities and execute! Our moment is now!!! Embrace it, take it and kick their asses all over that field. Today we become Champions and tomorrow we will be legends!!! Boiler up!!!

When was the last time Purdue won the Big Ten championship? 2000 under Brees.

Before that was 1967. Jeff Brohm was BORN in 1971.

"Clearly this is a spectacular opportunity....that has only happened ONCE IN MY LIFETIME. Play the game of your life and we will forever walk together as champions!" ( with a nod to Fred Shero).

BOILER UP!

Nobody expects us to win. We've got nothing to lose. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you will never forget for as long as you live. Let's have fun. Let's play loose. Let's leave it all out on the field. And let's get together every few years at Ross-Ade Stadium and toast ourselves and our success.
