So yesterday I was form 1 ing a bunch of short barrel rifle pistol things( long story but it's saving a $200 tax stamp) and mentioned Zain Retherford to the young guy handling my paperwork.

I was watching some highlights of him wrestling before I went to the gun shop, and was trying to find the semifinal when he had over Brandon Sorenson in the 2017 tournament.

Maybe you guys could post a link for that match?

The young guy waiting on me mention he wrestled Zain Retherford when he was in school. I asked him if he got pin. Where did the tech fall you? He just laughed and said it was only practice, Zehner was a senior, and he was an eighth grade.

The poor bastard was his practice dummy for like two hours he said. Of course, I had to ask him if he was very good, and he just laughed and said, yeah, really good. He couldn't do a darn thing against him, imagine that? However, he did say he's one of the nicest guys he ever met.

Obviously, a fierce competitor, but a real decent person off the mat. Nothing that everyone here doesn't know already but I thought I'd just mention it.

I wonder if he felt anything like Malik Amine felt when he wrestled Zain for two hours. Oh wait, it was for only 6 and a half minutes, it only seemed like two hours to Malik!!

The kid is a good kid and said great things about Zain. He just treated him like a practice dummy lol.

Shoutout once again to @psudotedu, and also to the pinned threads no-one ever thinks to look at. ;)
Thanks to psudotedu and you for posting the Bo/Dudley match. I thought it was owned by the Flo police!

I told this story before, but at the wrestling banquet that year, I was able to talk too Bo. I asked him if he gave up the easy reversal to Dudley purposely so he could cradle him up? Bo with a little grinn says yes I did. I thought that was pretty cool!

Speaking of Sorensen v Retherford, I talked to Zain's Dad once. He said the reason Zain was slow on the start against Sorensen in their one close, OT match at Carver was because Zain had a "bad descent plan" that week.

Of course, we know what Spencer would say about excuses...

"Descent plan"? Maybe that was my problem as a wrestler? I had no plan at all. My sophomore year in high school I weighed in on a Monday at 154 1/2 and made 136 Thursday afternoon for a dual only to get bumped from starting that week. That was the only time I ever skipped school, and that was with the permission of my mother so I could run most the day to make weight!
