Do you ever feel the word Champ might be overused in describing those who get taken apart, brutalized, pretzeled and annihilated by a real Champ?

I don't think the Pac12 has much internal competition, and Iron Sharpens Iron.

Everything in life is relative. You shouldn't ever declare yourself a champion without a qualifier. It's legitimate to say Pac 10/12 Champ, because it limits the scope to the Pac 10/12. Obviously, Zain is the Big Ten and defending National Champion, both of which hold more water.
