I have been to Simeone twice. Once for a Christmas party event and once just to see it. He has some nice cars and if your friend is a car guy he will appreciate the variety of cars. My personal fave was the Roadrunner and the Maserati from the Mille Miglia timeframe (late 40s-early 60s)

The Simeone is a nice place but you will be in and out of there in less than hour.

I am also thinking of Montreal GP. It looks to be s great race.

Since it appears you are in the general Phl area -consider trying out GothamDreamCars in Englewood NJ. You can do a dream car tour with 6 cars that you trade off every hour or so. The usual stuff Bentley’s Ferrari’s etc. it would give you and your friend a nice driving experience. A little more involved in than just looking at cars

And by the by the Philly Car show is coming up soon.

Sorry to hear of your friends loss.

I was going to say the Philadelphia Auto Show is February 8-17. That is always a good time for car enthusiasts.

Has anyone been to the Simeone Automotive Collection in Philly? How about the “special” days when they break out a few cars to run?

One of my best friends just lost his wife from a sudden and unexpected illness...57. Some of his buddies are trying to come up with some ideas to get away and do some car stuff. We are thinking about going to the Montreal GP in June.
Have you considered attending a “driving school”? The next few months will be perfect for learning how to drive fast on a track in the Arizona desert. It would be a great, rehabilitative guys-only trip.

If you are willing to take a boys trip -in Vegas is an exotic car driving experience. You pay for laps around the Vegas Motor Speedway -you can pick from a variety of driving experiences.

It’s more money and time -but again it’s a hands on experience. And since it’s in the speedway and not public roads you don’t have to worry about some 19 year old texting her boyfriend and not paying attention to you and running into you.

I have friends that have gone to driving schools ... great experience and they became much better drivers.

First of all, sorry for your loss.

What kind of car stuff are you into. Grand Prix only?

Or are you open to more stuff?

Laguna Seca comes to mind. California is a car crazy state. Beyond a visit there, you might be able to check out some other car related stuff. It is closer to (Central) Northern Cal, but still between LA and San Francisco.

Every summer there is a vintage car race held in Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. These are old race cars from various periods that actually race on the streets of Pittsburgh. There is a huge variety of cars from Porsche to Austin Healeys to Jaguars and on and on. Combined with car shows that you can walk around to see the cars and parade of cars. Some great rare classic race cars. Pretty cool event.

im so there, please send pics of your guest room, bath and beer fridge.

In LA there is The Porsche Experience where you can book an hour or half day and drive their track.
It was $800 in a 911 for an hour track time when I did it. Pro driver rides with you.

A few years ago i got very lucky to go to a school out in Arizona north of Phoenix but way the hell out in desert - dirt roads and not very clear directions. It was Toyota’s proving track. After a brief safety lesson Pro driver lets you drive to test your tolerance for speed - you could go 200 mph but your body and mind do not allow you to go much over 130 at least for me. He then drives and again it is a test of your tolerance. They give a great talk about engineering and design. It was four days and a blast.

heard there is a driving school near Las Vegas where you get same experience. I think it was about $3000 for the five days.

expensive but an experience you’ll talk about for years

Watkins Glen schedule linked ...

WGI hosts some excellent weekends (non-NASCAR, of course) in June including SCCA Majors Super Tour and IMSA SportsCar Six Hours at the Glen ...

Porsche opened a facility in Atlanta as well that you can do the Porsche Experience at. Might be a cheaper trip from PA compared to going west.

BTW. You need not own or be a potential owner for the Porsche Experience. Even if you have never owned a sports car you can sign up.

For anyone who salivates of the "Bring a Trailer" online auction site, check out this baby that ended last week. Incredible!

Low mileage, bone stock S2k's are pulling down some crazy numbers.

Always liked the S2000s. I think the spike in value is a bit skewed as they were hyper low mileage cars that will take a nose dive if they're driven, which defeats the purpose of ownership imo. They were not limited production outside of the CR so you can get clean ones at decent prices and should be able to for awhile. Honda sold over 66,000 in the US and a lot of them were well taken care of.

I have a copy of that chart.

There were only 20 Club Racers produced in '08 w/o AC and audio.

If you compare the production numbers of the S2K to it's direct competitors, MX-5, Porsche Boxster, etc. The S2k has a much lower production run. As time and attrition kick in the limited 67,000 US run will gain more an more traction for the inevitable unicorns that are lurking in barns and garages.

MX-5 wasn't really a direct competitor. Boxster S and the bmw m roadsters were probably the most direct. BMW produced around 15,000 Ms. 67,000 is cars a lot of cars when you are talking about appreciation/scarcity. Staying in house, Honda sold 3200 Integra Type-Rs in the US for comparison.

The unicorn 3/low 4 digit mileage cars will keep going up and so will the CR but there will be 20,000-40,000 mile cars that are "affordable" for a while. I highly doubt it approaches older 911s where everything sells for 6 figures regardless.

Outside Honda, other "halo" sports cars: I've read MkIV Supra numbers were around 12,000 but not sure how accurate that is. Dodge produced ~31,000 vipers from 92-2016 globally. Porsche produced under 1000 996 GT3s for the US. Mitsubishi sold 8200 Evo IXs here. VW made 20,000 of the current gen Golf R for the us (which makes me a little sad since I just bought another one this week, yay 0% financing).

Conversely, Chevy made about a billion corvettes.

Another fun BAT auction to follow for anyone who likes fast wagons:

Pic of your R! DSG? Color? On a side note Son2 is getting UM stage 1 this week on his 17 GTI. Can’t wait, I drive his car all the time.

UM makes good tunes. if it’s a manual tell him to budget for a clutch. Stock clutches can’t handle extra power.

I didn’t get the spec I wanted but there are only about 20 new ones left with the DSG nationwide and 5 cars sold while i was negotiating w the dealer. Black DSG car with the Englishtown wheels. There aren't any real options except the wheels I wanted and didn't get. Its is still in Baltimore so I need to drive out and get it one weekend this month since I'm not allowed on airplanes. I have all the parts from my last one, so should be around 350 hp at the wheels before the end of May.

This one is identical, and I tried to buy it, but they wanted about 3 grand more than I got mine for and wouldn't budge. https://www.westsidevw.com/new/Volk...n-Golf+R-8e0cec0d0a0e0a6b32d029a15a0f72c7.htm

(found your post on gmk7):D
What bolt ons are you reinstalling?
Son2 is going UM cause our boy billy at A2B is a dealer, and clutch, nuff said awful
kJ0H7q6.jpg

Haha, stalker.

Intercooler, downpipe, JB4, and a resonator delete are my leftover bolt-ons. Hardwiring my old dashcam and radar detector. Need to pick up new motor/trans mounts and figure out the intake. Ultimately probably going to get a UM or Unitronic stage 2 ecu and tcu tune and stack the jb4 but thats not going to happen right away.

Cosmetically, its getting 20% tint all around while its still in Baltimore and then paint protection film once its home. Trying to source black emblems but they've apparently all been discontinued so meh.

Goal is 375 awhp and low to mid 11s in the 1/4. My manual car did 12.5@116. The trap speed was high for that car but the ET was disappointing. Still the highest trap speed in a stock turbo manual on the drag ladder, . Dual clutch should fix that. Also hoping to put a child seat in the back sometime soon so need to get this car built while theres still time haha.

Those trips are so fun. I bought my TT in Rhode Island, drove home as it got dark on summers in freezing November rain. My ass was fully puckered. I guess I never learn cause I brought my miata home on that same road many Novembers ago. Be safe.

After driving a 20 year old ford for the last year and a half, I'm incredibly excited about 11 hours behind the wheel of this one. Sad that its going to be stock for it but oh well.

Drive up to Stanhope I’ll buy you breakfast, billy can Stage 1 you while we drink coffee.

Haha- my local um guy would kill me. I’ve been picking his brain for advice for years and never purchased anything from him. I really need to get the exhaust parts on quickly so just need to have an install party in a week or two. Promised my wife I wouldn’t make this one “loud”.
