11 Nations of the United States?? Say dude, where ya from?

I'm in the skinny part of the Midlands in PA. Even though the guy has written other books and won some type of award, his categories are flawed. Consider my new country of the Midlands. He said it was settled by English Quakers. Well, Philadelphia was settled by English Quakers but there was an even more substantial influence from German settlers throughout the Midlands. And try telling someone in Kansas City or Omaha their city was settled by the Quakers. They'd look at you like you were stupid.

This is an interesting concept, but not as well done as, and is a copy of, “The 9 Nations of North America”

Also this guy has places like Lackawanna County as part of Yankeedom... I don’t think so buddy.

I haven't read the article yet, just looked at the map. I grew up in Massachusetts and now live in Chicagoland (both in the author's nation of Yankeedom) and they are world's apart culture-wise.

Is Pitt’s campus classified as a nation, or an island of undiscovered people who have never been introduced to human civilization?

As a point of clarification, there are 567 sovereign tribal nations recognized by the USA, and located within the USA. And there are quite a few tribal nations, particularly those that were originally located in the 13 original colonies, that either no longer exist, or are not officially recognized by the USA in large part due to the disorder that was caused by their endlessly moving westward (or in small cases northward or southward), as their land was continuously taken from them, either by treaty, or by the breaking of treaties.

I've lived in six of the eleven. There's actually a lot of truth in what he says, but I think sometimes the distinctions between Midlands, Deep South and Appalachia are pretty tenuous.
