Wow....Nick Lee ranked ahead of Dean Heil on both Flo and Intermat rankings. Who woulda thought that?? The Heil/Meredith match at Big 12's will be worth the price of admission.

If Heil gets his head straightened out. He seems to be in free fall at the moment. My personal opinion is that it's his style catching up with him. Given his tendency to constantly be involved in close matches that could go either way, his winning streak was unsustainable. This recent spell could just be statistical correction. It's got to be playing with his head - as much as the feeling he could keep playing with fire and getting away with it was during his winning streak.

I wonder if the new Danger Rule has really gotten into his head such that he cannot adapt to a new style given the level of competition. He has always been a wrestler who has played too close to the flame that he did not have the ability to reinvent himself.

Weight cut, confidence, style (close matches), wore out/burn out (mentally, physically, as a 5th year SR in this brutal sport)...or some combination of all those things?

This may work out horribly for someone, depending on how the rest of the season goes, which will determine his seed at NCAA's.

I also spoke too soon about a Meredith/Heil rematch. It'll probably be a Heil/Alber in a Big 12 semifinal. That can be a good match. I also see that Ian Parker bumped up to 141 from 133 and beat Heil after the Storr transfer announcement. Is Parker staying at 141?

Perhaps he can right the ship one more time if he faces McKenna at nationals.

Yes. The cut to 133 was having a very negative effect on Parker. It also lets Simmons go at 133.

We'll get a preview of Alber/Heil this Sunday. UNI goes against Ok St this Sunday.

I think the new rule may have impacted Heil in the sense that it forced him to become self-conscious of how he wrestles, especially given that it would've been reasonable for him to think that the rule explicitly targeted his style. That's pretty speculative on my part but it wouldn't be shocking to hear him say something along those lines a few years from now.

Thinking it's much more than that now that he lost to Parker. Not exactly in Heil's class, with losses to the likes of Schmitt, Bridges, Thornton, and Cefalo.

I applaud Heil's efforts to help us by improving Nick's seed plus setting himself up for a round 2 match with McKenna.

Agree. Also, Coach Smith throwing shade about Dean's disappointing effort in not getting bonus points against WVU maybe didn't help either. Guessing John was trying to light a fire but perhaps the opposite occurred.
