They screwed the pooch and canceled last year when they didn't need too. The worst thing tho would be making decisions this far out.
Wrestling seems easier than most. Test each starter before the match. Easy peasy lol. I wish it was that easy but it can be done. Psu would be RS a pretty good opportunity at a title if wrestling does happen and thats their plan.
'Wrestling seems easier than most', I would like to hang out with you my brother, your optimism might prove 'infectious'!
However I sadly beg to differ. wrestling is probably the most complicated by far due to the extreme close contact, sharing sweat, skin to skin contact, blood, breath in your face ... As a minimum (in theory) you would need to test each wrestler before each practice to be sure, and even then... Noone is going to do that.
With a 3-10 day incubation period where you likely test negative while 'conceivably' 'contageous, what happens after you wrestle someone who later turns up positive? Everyone being in the same room sharing mutual partners at least 1 weight class up or down 'theoretically' one guy could infect a while team through the handoffs.
Say Meredith tests positive, and spends time vs RBY who also trains with Nick Lee, who takes a go with Verk and so on.... Not allowing RBY to wrestle against Nick would severely affect the quality of the training. Even if you didn't allow for cross weight class contact, they are all still in the same room, getting their faces smashed onto the same mat.
Case in point. Have you seen what those idiots are doing in MLB? Three games into the well thought out restart they are already cancelling games because they played a game against a team that has had a positive test(s). If that is their plan, after 4 months of study and brainstorming, I have to shake my head.
What happens when any wrestling team has 1 or 2 positives? I bet the next match will get cancelled, if not several weeks worth of contests. What about the team that wrested them 2 days earlier, who has a match 3 days in the future?
No matter what the NCAA and/or Big 10 come up with it's bound to be a cluster. If MLB can't get their shit together for an outdoor sport, wrestling is doomed. We haven't even begin to talk about crazy parents, attorneys, or academic administrators who have shown no testicles ever!
If I see only a handful of matches before things implode I will be ecstatic. The Flo event Saturday was a shot of adrenalin. We need to Redshirt everything that moves and let's all cross our fingers for sanity returning in the fall of 2021. I am good with seeing guys like Meredith, Starocci, Verk, Manville, Berge, Beard and Seth do their thing even if we see only a half dozen matches, but to potentially lose a year of eligibility to guys who can RS in 2020/21 would be unwise.
