2016 Who's Number One

Was that the last time Verk scored 10 points in a match?

I'm just going to assume that this was a real question.... December 2019 at the Wilkes open

excerpt from gopsusports.com:

Sophomore Jarod Verkleeren (Greensburg, Pa.) wrestled at 149 and rolled to the title at his weight. Verkleeren went 4-0 with two majors and a tech fall.

Why take a shot at one of our guys? Jarod goes out and gives 100% every match he wrestles. Isn't that what we want from our guys?

Lol I’m not really a PSU fan but relax, it was a joke.

(Not counting tournaments against backups and such, he did have a 12-3 major in the MSU dual in 2019).

That is definitely impressive to have that many guys from 1 WNO (all of which who won) though.

I think the “it’s just a joke bro” schtick is tired. I’m not for disparaging any college wrestler regardless of team. This level of wrestling is probably the hardest college sport there is. These guys sacrifice so much that we should be supporting them instead of taking pot shots.

But you’re right. It’s an impressive list.

The criticism of Verkleeren last year, echoed the criticism of Jimmy Gulibon. It was unfair in both instances. Both gave everything they had and deserved our support. We are not measured by our success, but by our effort.
