The election will begin on April 10, and continue until 9 am EDT on May 4, for 3 alumni-elected trustees, to serve 3-year terms. The current terms of Al Lord, Bob Jubelirer, and Alice Pope will end on June 30th.

Ballots will be sent out electronically starting the morning of April 10. If you've submitted a nomination this year, you should receive a ballot. If you've voted in a recent BOT election, you might receive a ballot. If you don't receive a ballot, follow these steps:

1. wait a couple of days
2. check your spam folder for an email from "psuelections@votenet.com"

If you have not received a ballot by April 12, and have not found a ballot in your spam folder, then you can request a ballot at THIS LINK.

The candidates for the 2017 election, and their respective web sites, are listed below in their respective ballot position:

1. Albert L. Lord '67

2. Joseph "Jay" V. Paterno '91

3. Robert J. Bowsher '86
his web site

4. Alice W. Pope '79, '83, '86

5. Robert C. Jubelirer '59, '62
his web site

You can find biographical information, and position statements, for each candidate at THIS LINK.

PS4RS has changed their approach this year, and is not staging an endorsement process. They will be conducting a 90-minute Candidate Town Hall on Wednesday, April 5, at 1 pm EDT. It's my understanding that all of the candidates have agreed to participate in the town hall. It will be live streamed for everyone to watch. I don't have a URL for the video stream, but will post it once I get it.

If you have any questions about the election, the election process, etc., post them and I'll do my best to answer them.

Tom- this may put you on the spot, and if you choose not to answer I will understand.

I see no reason to believe that it will make any difference who we vote for, as the board has very effectively marginalized all opposition. I don't think my voting just to "make a statement" actually accomplishes anything. I see no measureable accomplishment that I can credit to the A-9, and don't expect that to change given the entrenched power structure.

Can you give me a reason to feel differently?

Well, I'm an optimist by nature, and also tend to look at things from a long-term perspective.

The A9 have been frustrated in their ability to effect substantive change. That's primarily due to the Old Guard's efforts to marginalize them before the A9 were united, and also due to former Chair Keith Masser's expanding the size of the BOT with his "A+" proposal in late 2014.

However, the Governor gets to make 2 more picks this year, and 2 more the following year, so the dynamics of the BOT are changing. In addition, some of the remaining Old Guard trustees will start to reach term limits in the coming years, so the outlook is more positive than the picture I think you painted.

While the A9 may have not accomplished all, or even half, of what they would have liked to accomplish, they have made more progress than many realize. Unfortunately for them, most of their best results take place in the Friday morning BOT executive sessions, so they can't speak about what they said, what was discussed, etc. It is what it is.

The Freeh Report review will likely be pretty big. I realize that most can't believe it's taken so long, but again, the A9 are having to operate under a lot of challenges imposed on them by both the Judge that granted them access to the material, as well as by the BOT. The information will get aired -- I just can't tell you when.

In short, while the frustration that many alums feel is pretty high, I encourage you to vote for 3 candidates that you think have the best chance of representing the views that you want to see brought before the BOT.

Speak for yourself monterey. I gave up with the A9 apparent deep six.[including my man Dem]
