The PRC
Prairie Hawk on HR had an interesting poll that I thought I'd make a PSU version over here. (I've set it so that up to 2 can be picked.)

I wouldn't sleep on Cortez.

I'm not sure if he can beat Clark, Richards, NATO & Brock, but he's definitely going to compete with them.

I'm really curious how good he's gonna be this year. It won't shock me to see him wrestling on Friday night at NCAAs

That's my pick as well.

Ditto. Gilman-Suriano and IMar-Joseph matchups (regardless of venue) pique my interest. Even if the more experienced guys have the upper hand, Holy Testosterone, Batman!

EDIT: Perhaps not a coincidence that the two guys ahead by a wide margin are the two guys we know the least about in the college arena. Ahh, the intrigue of mystery . . .

I went with Nick Suriano and Rasheed. I see 165 as a real meat-grinder that will test everyone in the top 10 of the weight class. I base my answer of Rasheed on his results from last year, minus the gassing issues. If the gassing was a function of the cut, he could be a monster at the "right" weight. Nick Suriano I think is just tough as nails - think Nico with a better top game.

Don't sleep on Cutch, especially if he stays healthy. Also, solid chance he's at 174 and I don't consider Bo a lock at 184

For total team points, it makes so much more sense for Nickal to stay 174 and bump up next year w / Wreck Hall slotted at 174.

Bo going 184 could really make the "margin of error" for PSU to repeat this year paper-thin.
Oh I completely agree with you. The coaches know this too. You just may need to convince one Mr. Bo Nickal of this.

IMar eked out a few wins last year to guys he should've had an easier time with because he was cutting too much. If it's a decision of whether to have a third period Bo at 100% at a tougher weight class or, say, 80% in the third at a weaker weight class, maybe going up is the best thing. No idea whether this is the case but at some point, for some guys, there's a point of diminishing returns when you opt for the best case scenario on paper. That said, Bo had trouble finding leverage against the FS 189 guys at one of the tournaments over the spring/summer, so I wonder if he's too lanky still for 184. But then Q always looked lankier the guys he was wrestling at both 184 and 197 and he made it work.

I noticed the mystery element too b/c those were my two picks. Suriano is a bigger mystery as a true freshman but with the benefit of a weaker weight class now with 100% less NaTo. 165 might be the deepest class this year but watching Cenzo compete FS this year it was you couldn't help notice that he belongs in the upper tier. His gas tank will serve him well come tournament time.

Your point about cutting is well taken . . . but I believe it is important to take into account the issue of Bo perhaps not pacing himself appropriately within matches last season. If that problem is real and has not been corrected, it will be glaringly obvious at 184 (assuming he will be giving up some size). His style of last season will not work if he is giving up 5-10 lbs. (or more), as he will be nowhere near 100%, or even 80%, come the third period. Size does matter.

If Jimmy gets his head straight & has worked on finishing shots this off-season, I would not sleep on him either.

He's capable of putting it all together in any dual or any tourney.

There's only 1 or 2 kids at 141 who I think physically he could not beat - but he is capable of beating everyone else.

It's up to him. Last chance this year.

Agreed (even though my votes went to Suriano and Cenzo)...Except I want to ask who you think he physically can't beat?

He went toe to toe with Heil last year and he beat Jordan (yes I realize the weight cut for Jordan was huge but Jimmy still had to gut that one out)

My point is that I think Jimmy can't be judged by his wins or his losses but he has shown the ability to turn it on at times. I think his ceiling truly is NCAA champ, but at the same time his floor might be 2-2...

I'm pulling for him a little extra this year and I've got high hopes for a top 4 finish - he's more than capable in my opinion, but time will tell.

I can't see Jimmy physically hanging with McKenna or Ashnault.

I think on any given day he can beat everyone else, including Heil.

Well said...those guys are match up nightmares even on Jimmys best day! I think he could "find a way" with either of them, but they aren't ideal opponents for him in the least.

Thanks for clarifying!

Actually I think he can beat any of them, even Ashnault.
