2018 Recruiting Thread

Was nice t see Simmons really start to come on as the season wore on... another good off season in the weight room and he should be a force next year. Oweh even admitted last night during the interview he needs to hit the weight room and doesn't have a go to move yet. A season of weights and developing techniques would do him well and really set him up for a strong RS Freshmen season

Michigan's top ranked verbal didn't sign during early signing period, announces he will take visits.

Looking back at this recruiting class, Franklin OWNED Harbaugh this recruiting cycle.

Eleven Penn State signees have Michigan offers: Parsons, Shorter, Oweh, Dotson, Asiedu, Mustipher, Kuntz, Gordon, Scruggs, Hawkins, and Culpepper.

Two Michigan signees have Penn State offers: CB Myles Simms, TE Mustapha Muhammad.

From the Opening testing last spring...Oweh ran a 4.63 40 at that event. Also a reminder about how athletic our QB verbal Levis is.

Pitts (#8 on the list) is a player that from my limited knowledge of CJF's priorities wish he was part of this class. Not that PSU needed 3 TE's in the class. I only watched a little of last nights game, but saw him make a catch and he is very athletic and has the potential to be a difference maker.... Just sad to see PA talent going south, so to speak....

Agree but lets not forget that Simmons got a lot of playing time as a RS freshman at 244. Oweh is listed at 235. I suspect the decision to RS will be situational. In other words, I am sure the staff would love to RS him but depth and injuries may dictate.

Yep, and PSU enters 2018 with considerably more DE depth than it had in 2016, the year that Simmons redshirted. To me the 2 chances that Oweh plays in 2018 are "slim and none".... unless there is startling roster turnover. 7 returning DE's with experience (Miller, Buchholz, Brown, Gross-Matos, Simmons, Toney, Joseph)
plus Barber coming off a redshirt, and Barber looked much more physical than Oweh when he showed up last fall and should be a big, physical DE as a RS-FR...

Yeah SPARQ was started by a company Nike bought and is used by NFL teams to evaluate draft prospects.

There are tons of information about it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARQ_Training

I really like this paragraph from blackshoediaries about Will Levis SPARQ measurements. It really shows he's an elite athlete.

"Before getting to the film itself, we need to start with Levis’ ridiculously high SPARQ rating of 123.27, the highest score of any quarterback in the country. He ran a faster 40-yard dash than Zack Kuntz. He had a better vertical leap than Justin Shorter. He had a longer power throw than Micah Parsons. And perhaps most impressively, his 20-yard shuttle time was just 0.03 seconds slower than Ricky Slade."

yeah, what goes into that "Nike football rating"? something similar to NFL combine?

What does this have to do with 2018 recruiting?[/QUOTE)

The new OSU DC (Grinch) is from Ohio and is coming home. He is young (37?) and energetic. Has connections to Mount Union, Alliance, Youngstown area

May not affect 2018 recruiting but will be a factor in NE Ohio, NW PA recruiting in future

Your actual post is empty. Please don't mess with the text that you are replying to and then we will actually be able to read what you are saying.......

I think CJF probably knows a little more than you about which TE's fit at PSU.

If we do get Young, I'm guessing it means goodbye Walker ? To be totally honest based on need I'd take Young and Walker over Enis

Duh - Thanks for the words of wisdom!!

If you read my post, that's what I said!!

Read it again and you may realize my comment was that Pitts is a talent and it's great when PA talent stays at PSU.....

Isheem Young with a CB to PSU
I would't get too excited. The guy who made the pick probably doesn't realize Young is currently in prison. Based on his other picks, he doesn't look like someone who is remotely tapped into the PA scene.

It is you that doesn't realize. Young is not currently in prison.

When it comes to recruiting, Harbaugh can't just pick and choose

He was in Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility. Pretty sure thats a prison....

I did get a few pointers from my son's criminal justice studies:

Jail - where they put you when you are charged for a crime, or for short term punishment

prison - where you do your time after the trial is completed and you are convicted and sentenced

Unless there was already a trial, conviction, and sentencing, it's very unlikely that Young has been to prison....although I don't know anything about Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility...............

He was incarcerated. We can get into semantics about the technical definition of a jail or a prison but the bottom line is he was locked up in a crow bar motel. There is as much chance of him coming to PSU at this point as Chris Simms Dan Kendra or Chad Henne.

I'm not sure what a white collar criminal lawyer who was a temporary attorney general 20 years ago would know about this case, especially since his quotes appear to indicate that he's unaware that the kid who admitted to the robbery and is claiming that Young isn't involved was also arrested at the same time Young was.

And besides, the headline doesn't even seem to match Cohen's quotes. All he said was essentially that we'll learn more at Young's upcoming preliminary hearing, and that the DA can choose to continue to press charges against him even if this other kid testifies in Young's defense.

Why is Dan Kendra the only one who's name is spelled properly? I get misspelling these guys' and other painful PSU misses' names. But why only 2/3 in this case?
