Who knows if we will even have Olympics this year but just a thought occurred to me.

The 2020 NCAA champs this year were guaranteed a spot at Olympic Trials coming up. Since there are no NCAA champs I wonder if there’s any discussion at letting some guys in to try to qualify.

My thought is it would be fair if the top 2 seeds at every weight get invites. If they decline it goes to next seed down.

Not having NCAAs took away an opportunity for guys like Cenzo and Mark right off top of my head and I’m sure there’s others.

For example at 165. Maranelli is 1 seed and Vincenzo 2. If both accept invite, great. If Maranelli declines than Griffith gets an invite, etc.

If someone is already qualified at a weight (example Nick Lee), Pletcher and Wood would be invited and up to them to decline or accept.

So big deal we send an extra guy from what was intended but since there were no NCAAs to find out I think this would be fair

Thoughts?

adding extra guys to the field isn't fair to those already qualified. some of the 10 winners this year would have already qualified by other means, so maybe add 6 more guys total sounds reasonable. make it top 3 from each weight at the last chance qualifier? they already bumped it to top 2 from one of the other canceled tourneys.

I would think if there are any additions made to the field as a result of the cancelled NCAA's it would be at the last chance qualifier. Of course, there is doubt that the last chance qualifier will be held, then possibly no OTT & of course the Olympics are probably less than 50-50 at this point.
