2022 #1 PFP Headed to Iowa

Enjoyed watching her at OTT. She is always in good position and has great strength for her age.

Good for them! Hopefully Penn State will follow as we need a Womens Team to comply with Title 9 anyways. We weren't first but the longer you wait, the more pieces come off the board. Iowa was always going to get the best (Clarissa + the Blades and Welker)

I missed the detail—how many schollies does the Iowa women’s program have?

No idea how many. In time, those schools that take on Women's Wrestling will try to get as many endowed as possible, not unlike any other sport. It is not yet out of emerging sports status, that will take years.

Interesting that as an emerging sport the NCAA has Women's Wrestling noted as an equivalency sport with 10 scholarships max.

Welker is very good but who decided she is #1 PFP? I would go with Kennedy Blades.
Kennedy obviously wasn't right at WTT last year, but Welker technically beat her there (w/ Kennedy injury defaulting after passing out cold). Welker was winning at the time of the (re)injury.

2022 #1 Women’s PFP Headed to Iowa’s Women’s Wrestling program.

Great for Iowa and their Regional Training center!

Oh crap, Saw the OP title and was expecting it to be a pickup for Iowa’s Men’s Wrestling - 2022 #1 PFP Headed to Iowa

I have about the same interest in this as the number one women's basketball recruit. Yaaaawn
So is it the trifecta of womens, freestyle, and Hawkeye that breeds such indifference, or do one or two of those weigh more heavily for you?

If PSU had women’s wrestling, I’d buy season tickets—but would likely only attend the big or convenient duals (if that’s even a thing).

Just curious—because many want this thing to take off, but there are significant hurdles too.

Hopefully the rest of the Big Ten gets its collective rear end in gear and doesn't let Iowa rule women's wrestling.

Drop women's tennis or golf. No one cares about or goes to watch these two sports and add a women's wrestling team! I really enjoyed watching the women wrestle in the Olympics. I guarantee it would get a lot of support at PSU. I would watch all the matches. The matches with Iowa would be great! Cael should get it done like Brands did at Iowa.

No.

We are not dropping sports in order to add one. That's what Iowa did.

We Are all Penn State and we will find a way to add a sport without sacricing another.

Hell yeah! Big recruit. Im happy for her and Iowa. Girls wrestling was just sanctioned at the high school level in Iowa aswell. Definitely a growing sport and I'm thankful for that.

Women at these upper levels really are intense competitors. These ladies are legit and mean business!

We are having revenue problems in the athletic department and we have an AD that can raise a dollar to save her life. We can give up one small non revenue sport for another without violating Title IX.

And yet you felt the need to respond with your inane post so apparently you DO have some interest.
I said I had equal interest not zero interest. It is nice but not exactly the level of a number one male recruit to me. I have never watched women's college wrestling, but perhaps I will at some point. I do enjoy watching the women at the International events at times. Will the D1 women wrestle folkstyle or freestyle? The title pulled me in. If it had said women's number one recruit I wouldn't have read or commented.

Probably a combination of things. I have four grandsons who wrestle, but no granddaughters. I'm old and there were no women wrestling most of my life. I'm not much of a freestyle or greco fan no matter which sex is competing. I would and will probably buy tickets if ISU starts a team up, but I really wouldn't spend money helping eastern iowa university on purpose. This is a great thing for Iowa women's wrestling, but it is no big deal to me because I really don't have that many (any)annoying Hawkeye women's wrestling friends or enemies.

Thanks for explaining! I’d only point out that it’s all wrestling—and some of the women are very, very good at it. But I get it—we can’t invest ourselves in everything. It’s sacrilege around here, but I’m going to be an Iowa (and Lock Haven) Womens team fan up until when I don’t have to be anymore.

B1G schools need to drop 10-12 sports. Most top southern programs have around 20 and spend on football because that drives the department.

The greatest tax loophole in the United States is that major colleges run a professional sports league in football and basketball and they don't (have to) pay Unrelated Business Income Tax.

I'm still waiting for men's field hockey.
