Wrestling 2023 B1G Tournament

Hardy was just better but I question Bartlet's strategy. Bartlett let Hardy escape twice and couldn't escape himself after being taken down in the 2nd period. So why did he take down position to start the 3rd period? He needed an escape that he couldn't get in period 2 PLUS a takedown. I don't get it.
Agreed. I’ll say this again and get beat up here for saying it. He has struggled from bottom against good competition. Usually that is a guy undersized or not strong enough. We all know he’s usually the best athlete on the mat every time out. He needs to get significantly stronger to win a title or go down to 133 next year.

Probably a tall task to drop weight again this year and gain strength. He was close, Cael makes those adjustments. Not every wrestler can win a title. It's an elite, select group. He may yet win one!

I was kinda skeptical of the notion of Beau dropping to 133, but I am warming to the idea.
So many tough kids have such a length advantage on him.

That matches changes drastically if Beau throws the boot out when he catches it the first time rather than boot himself in and try to get a reversal.
While I agree with you this match never felt like it was in Bartletts favor. Great first scramble for a TD by Bartlett off from what looked like it was gonna be a TD for Hardy. Hardy back next year and wrestles with Ridge Lovett daily. He’s not going anywhere. I love Beau, I think he can get there. He definitely keeps improving. But it never felt close to me. Hardy controlled 95 percent of that match.

He's plenty strong..he got big bro'd..by a bigger wrestler. He's a 133 pounder wrestling 141.

Long day fellas. I had a wildland fire refresher class all day. Sat in back watching on phone. Went dead after 149 qtrs. Watched/listened to semis while driving home. From what I see of brackets we had a good day. Very solid showing by the team. Excited for tomorrow.

Same reason David Evans took him to OT earlier this year. That match was really really close. Still pulling for Beau to make adjustments and catch fire. Definitely feels a tall task with some other really solid competition coming in at Nattys too.

Nebraska middle weights must be fun to watch practice. Hardy, Ridgetop, and Robb must have some epic rolls on the mat.

Agree with you 100 percent. He’s the strongest guy on the mat at 133 but 141 is a big jump. Let’s hope he can make adjustments.

Every time Bartlett struggles, we move him down a weight. No, he had a few low IQ moments, for a guy who wrestles how he does (chess matches with counters and well timed shots), low IQ moments will lose you matches.
Disagree. He was rag dolled. Needs to go down to 133.

Those guys will be a tough lineup next year. They aren’t going anywhere. Labriola leaves his spot to a tough Elise Brown Ton, Silas Allred and Lenny Pinto are tough as nails and they have a very capable 125 and 133 filling the bottom next year. Good to see the Big Ten stay tough. Can’t wait for Penn State to run it back next year too though :)

125 .000000000000000000001% chance
141 10% chance
You're giving Cronin too much of a chance here (barring catastrophic injury to SL). ;)

With his McKee TF, I guess Lee once and for all shut down the last vestige of hope for those that have been touting the dream that, "if someone can just take Spencer deep into the third they have a chance."

Astute and accurate post. Thanks.

With the new recruits he might get pinched if he doesn't adjust to folk style.
He’s 18-4 as a redshirt freshman with all of his losses except his last being to top 10 guys in the country. I think he has “adjusted” just fine to folkstyle. Hopefully he will continue to get better and show more offense but reading some of these comments you would think he wrestles for Rutgers or something

Well, he is the one who underperformed today, he must be persecuted. So says the board.

Well I got yelled at when the round was over. Jacob Warner’s mom came and said I was disrespectful to her son for celebrating Dean’s win while looking right at her. Of course she was just a random Iowa fan to me, no clue who she was.

Oh well!
Any chance you were wearing one of those t-shirts or hats with a pic of Jacob Warner screaming during last year's match against Max?

My comment wasn't specific to his matches today. I posted a comment a month ago about his trouble scoring from his feet. You are what you are. Maybe the coaches can improve his arsenal. It's a lot easier to improve a talented kids defense than his lack of offense.

Kind of funny she assumed you would know who she was. She's not famous. I'd say sorry just out of respect to a parent and say I didn't mean anything because I didn't know you were his mom. Your son is a great wrestler.

But man that's soft lol.
