Their ethanol based pride would never let them hire a PSU grad as coach. They would go after an alum but what current Iowa grad is coaching better than TnT? Tom Ryan??? I would say that would be an even switch? A Cary Kolat if they want to go younger?Iowa has a storied history, 15,000 at home meets and Dairy Queen ice cream with sprinkles. Plus, nobody would ever see it coming.
I don't think it happens, just saying on a daily basis we enjoy the results of something 14 years ago we would have deemed preposterous.
...sigh . . . [eyeroll]If you want serenity here then keep politics off the board. Just stop. It isn’t difficult.
TLDRExactly, saying Mohammed is a "False Prohpet" isn't "intolerance", it's fundamentally what all Judeo-Christians believe. Christians are fundamentally Jews by religion (Christ was a Rabbi and taught Jewish Law) - the original "Christians" were Jewish by both blood and religion. Essentially, Christians are Jews (by religion - some by both religion and blood) who believe Christ was the Messiah (Messiah is the Jewish term for "Annoited One", which is precisely what Christ means in Greek - many early Christian Bibles were written in Greek). In Rome, prior to Constantine, the Romans made no distinction between followers of Christ and "Orthodox Jews" (Jews who believed Christ was a Rabbi but not the Messiah) as being Jewish by faith (celebrating any religious faith inside Rome was a criminal offense punishable by death in ancient Rome prior to Constantine - and the Romans put many followers of Christ and Orthodox Jews to death in the Lions Den, among other ways, for celebrating the Jewish Faith inside Rome's walls). Saying that a couple billion people are "intolerant" for believing Mohammad is a "False Prophet" is ridiculous.
Actually, I think Bushwood does know what he’s talking about most of the time. He just needs to learn how to be a little more brief and also know when it’s time to let something go.Pretty different situations if you ask me. There wasn’t a big rivalry between ISU and PSU and Cael came because PSU was a sleeping giant situated in the middle of the hotbed of wrestling. DT or Nolf going to Iowa would be shocking. I don’t think that’s a controversial statement. Could it happen? I guess, because anything can happen but to me it’s as unlikely as Bushwood saying he was wrong about his “rules” interpretations
I agree. There is no way they would ever hire a PSU grad (although I would gladly recommend Troy Sunderland to them!). Hiring a PSU grad would be an acknowledgement that the Gable method doesn't work any more and they would never do that while Gable is still alive. They will live and die on that sword. I think it will take another decade of total domination by us before they finally realize that it is time to worship at the shrine of Cael and bring in a David Taylor, Nolf, Cenzo, Retherford or whoever is the hot former PSU coach in 10 years time.Actually, I think Bushwood does know what he’s talking about most of the time. Regarding DT or Nolf at Iowa - no way. They would almost certainly insist on using home grown talent. Hiring DT or Nolf would be totally degrading to any potential Hawk alumni who might want to be considered for the job.
Also, don’t forget that good coaches don’t necessarily have to be the absolute best wrestlers. Koll was only a 1X NCAA champion and look at the job he did at Cornell. Ryan didn’t even win the NCAA title and he’s doing a great job at tOSU. Maybe Iowa could entice Metcalf to come back. I’ll bet he would do a great job based on what I’ve heard about him and seen what he’s doing at ISU.
It's a fun exercise because there's no way they're firing Brands. We all know that, whether or not we want to admit to knowing it.Regarding DT or Nolf at Iowa - no way. If you think Gray shouldn't have won this year -- I agree. Find a better reason than Cornell's talent procurement that you cited.
Brands boys finish annually in top 4. Last 3 finishes are 1-3-2.It's a fun exercise because there's no way they're firing Brands. We all know that, whether or not we want to admit to knowing it.
In any case, whenever that day comes, agreed, Iowa is more inclined to stay in the family. They also seem unlikely to turn over the keys to a first-time head coach, including the current assistants.
Here are the current/recent D1 head coaches who wrestled at Iowa:
- Lennie Zalesky (fomerly Cal Baptist)
- Troy Steiner (Fresno State when program canceled)
- Kevin Dresser (Iowa State)
- Joel Sherratt (formerly Navy)
- Doug Schwab (Northern Iowa)
- Tan Tom (anOSU)
- Steve Martin (Old Dominion when program canceled)
- Jim Zalesky (formerly Oregon State)
- Tony Ersland (Purdue)
I'm not sure Iowa hires any of these guys -- the biggest names (Ryan and Dresser) are unlikely to leave their current jobs. Would the Hawks be happy with Steiner or Schwab or Ersland? Am guessing instead they would go outside the family for an experienced coach.
Cox would be a nice addition.Their ethanol based pride would never let them hire a PSU grad as coach. They would go after an alum but what current Iowa grad is coaching better than TnT? Tom Ryan??? I would say that would be an even switch? A Cary Kolat if they want to go younger?
I can't see that ON THE WRESTLING BOARD.I never knowingly lied to America about a stolen election or tried to overthrow Democracy....paid a porn star 130,000 or ignored Covid... causing us to have the worst numbers in the civilized world. I think my legacy compares quite well considering. My suggestion to play a game of chess is clearly never going to happen and was obviously a joke. The fact that you can't see that is quite telling.
I think Cox would be a disaster. He’s been acting weird for the last 3 years or so - the weigh in disaster, constant moves, etcCox would be a nice addition.
This used to be the ONE place I could visit and not see the political BS and that is apparently over. As long as these idiots receive "likes" they feel validated to keep posting. Can someone make it stop?I can't see that ON THE WRESTLING BOARD.
Take it elsewhere.
I saw your posts this weekend and wondering if you live in Indy. I moved to Indy to be near grandkids and always cool to find other Penn Staters (I met a few in Bloomington sitting in same row as the gentleman with the PSU Indiana alum flag...) I'm trying to figure out how to PM in this forum and haven't been able toAbout 3 hours
I agree. Way to flaky to lead a program at this point. Maybe in the future if he matures. DT/Nolf/Zane would be gold standard young coaches. I think Kemmer would make a nice HC with some personality to lead a big time program, if he goes that route. Dake of course but with his Benjamin Button aging problem by the time he is ready to take over a program, he will be 5 years old and I can't see Cornell turning over the program to a five year old even if the five year old is the toughest kid in Kindergarten!I think Cox would be a disaster. He’s been acting weird for the last 3 years or so - the weigh in disaster, constant moves, etc

Especially when you roll without capturing the wrist on the belly.I think that is poor scouting by Nebraska. History tells you not to roll against Carter and RBY. Never seen 2 guys so good at following or allowing it to go and capitalizing.

What no Baldwins.espn not showing the pic with trump. Regardless, disappointed in the lack of coverage...just the damn 30 second lame interview
Thinking middle upper weight coach.I think Cox would be a disaster. He’s been acting weird for the last 3 years or so - the weigh in disaster, constant moves, etc
You beat me to it, Conewago!
When you insult a Christian for professing their faith, God says they are blessed. You might want to search your heart and find out why you are offended by his faith. God bless.Brooks has zero personality. I don’t even know why they interview him. Just put up whatever bible verse he’d want to push then move on. I’ve never heard him speak an original thought… it’s been 4 years dude. Think of something interesting.

I do live in Indy. I move over here for a job in 1993 from the Pittsburgh area. I was also in Bloomington, sat with my sons wrestling coach (the guy the honered at intermission) and the former team trainer at Iowa under Gable (he lives in Indy now and helps coach our youth wrestlers).I saw your posts this weekend and wondering if you live in Indy. LMAOROFL. You had no problem with one of your obnoxious pals insulting one of our champions for his faith, just when someone stuck up for him. You losers brought up religion. Thank goodness that our coach and players are of much higher character than you and your pals.FIXT.
I personally like Kevin Dresser in this scenario. His first match, Iowa could come out wearing orange singlets. How cool would that be?It's a fun exercise because there's no way they're firing Brands. We all know that, whether or not we want to admit to knowing it.
