2024 Schedule

Nothing will happen until the conference is finished adding teams. I think they’ll stop at 18 for now, but then they have to figure out. Are they going to do six pods of three or two groups of nine and then they have to reassess their rivalry teams again. Basically the scheduling that they’ve been doing for the last month to get thrown out the window and they have to start over.
Two groups of 9 give you 8 division games and 1 protected or rotational cross over. I'm not sure that works. But it really doesn't matter because it will change again. They aren't done at 18.
I don’t think they’re done yet either but I think they will be at 18 for the fall of 2024 unless Notre Dame decides they want in.
They should do three groups of six which would give you five games from your pod, and then two each from the other two. no need for the protected rivalry as I’m sure they can find a way to put those rivals either in the same pod or as part of their two from the other pods
Agreed on the pods although I am not so sure they pause at 18 for too long. Things are changing quickly and either you dictate the change or you are forced to react to it.
Pods of 6 puts Nebraska with Iowa or Minnesota in the west. This will take some time to plan.
We’ll probably see a 2024 schedule around October, maybe they’ll announce opponents before then. I’d be shocked if the conference adds anyone else this year.
They’ll keep 9 conference games for now. They aren’t going back to divisions or any sort of pods. They will almost certainly use the same or similar system to the recent plan - a small number of locked rivals then rotating through everyone else.
They could lock in exactly one rival per team which would enable every team to play every other one 50% of the time (except the locked team every year). I think more likely they’ll set it up so you play every team at least once every 3 years (either home or away) which they could do with having up to 3 set opponents for each team.

It only makes sense to add them if we go to 24 and they're the western pod of 6
And even then I wouldn't take Cal.
