35 degrees, freezing rain 80 percent chance

I wish Cain was at100%. This game screams for a cowbell back. Someone who can get 4 yards every play, chew up clock, keep the ball in our hands.

At game time in Columbus. Keep an eye on this, poor weather has a way of equalizing things...

Not sure where you got that forecast but here is the forecast from the NWS in Wilmington Oh

Saturday
A chance of snow before 9am, then a chance of rain and snow between 9am and 10am, then a chance of rain after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Here is the detailed forecast for Friday and Saturday
A mid/upper level low/wave over the mid Mississippi Valley Friday
night will lift northeast across the lower Great Lakes Saturday into
Saturday night. This will allow for a developing surface low over
the lower Mississippi Valley Friday night to shift northeast across
our area through the day on Saturday. This will lead to an
increasing chance of pcpn across our south Friday night, with pcpn
becoming more widespread as we head into the day on Saturday. Expect
the best chance for pcpn across our southeast where we will have
likely pops, trimming back to chance across our northwest. The exact
track of the low will help dictate thermal profiles and the 12Z
GFS/GEFS has trended a bit closer to the cooler ECMWF. As a result,
will have any pcpn start off as mainly snow Friday night, before
transitioning to more of a rain/snow mix or rain heading into the
day on Friday. Pcpn may then transition back over to more of a mix
and/or snow later Saturday afternoon/into evening as the pcpn tapers
off from the northwest. Both the GEFS and ECMWF mean are suggesting
the possibility for some light snow accumulations with this event,
with the best chance for any accumulation to be along and north of
the I-70 corridor. For now, will generally keep highs on Saturday in
the low to mid 40s.

I simply googled Columbus weather. I'm seeing 35 degrees, freezing rain, and 10 to 15 mph winds at kickoff and staying that way into mid evening.

Still wish we were playing in perfect weather at 8pm and all of america was watching. We play better at night.

But.... it's time to strap it on. On Saturday, we find out how tough these kids really are. Wind, rain, cold... the stuff of legends.

Tell CJF to have the kids watch 300. Then let's have at it!

Cue "The Drive" against Illinois!!

It will be interesting to see how Justin Fields handles the weather. We do not get many bad weather days like this in Georgia. And when we do everything shuts down. I doubt he has played in many 35 degree freezing rain games.

I doubt anyone has played in 35 degree freezing rain games since the surface has to be below freezing for it to be freezing rain.

To semi quote that "great" NFL player Cardell Jones, are we playing weather or Ohio State? Whatever happens, both teams have to deal with the elements.

The air temperature can be 35 and the ground temperatures below freezing. That's how you get freezing rain. If the air temp is below freezing it would be snow or sleet.

Ok. Lets not turn this into a weather symposium. My point is the o$u QB is from the south. Not used to playing in the type of weather he will be seeing on Saturday. How many SEC teams have you seen play in a cold November rain?

You'd have to have a ton of cold air preceding the event to have much freezing happen in that case. Especially on a football field. With a low of 28 the night before, you're probably not getting that.

Agree that it will probably not freeze on a football field. Freezing rain forecasts are given roads, trees, power lines etc.

Depends on how soon the rain arrives after the air temp rises above freezing.

Looking back, Clifford did pretty well in the MSU game with the rain. Our receivers, not so much.

I don't think the weather will matter. However, usually in bad weather games, field position is key if the teams are of equal talent and coaching. I hope I am wrong but my gut is telling this is going to be one-sided in favor of the bad guys because I don't feel we are of equal talent and coaching. Please, PSU Football, prove me wrong.

Favors PSU in my opinion...rather have a dry, fast track. If it's really nasty, Day will be less inclined to take downfield shots, minimizing the benefits of what appears to be one of our biggest relative advantages. In any event, it's gonna be a helluva game....good luck to your Nits.

He handled the rain during the Wisconsin game just fine (12 for 22, 167 yards, 2 TDs). It started at kickoff (noon) and never stopped. Miserable day. Saturday looks like it might be worse because of 35ish temps. If we get the same weather as Wisconsin game, you're going to get a large dose of Dobbins and Teague. They ran for 163 and 76 yards respectively against what was then the No. 1 in Division I. More of a concern for Ohio is Field's health. This team does not have a Cardale Jones waiting on the bench. Fields must stay health. Good luck Nits.

Just once, I'd like a Big Ten team to get to play an SEC team under these conditions. Just once.

Back at ya Buckeye. Hopefully injury free game for both sides. OSU is very different this year - very focused. I credit Day for how well they execute and put teams away. If history means anything in this series lately, it should be a competitive ball game.

We had Bama once late in the year. But the game time temperature ended up being 75. Ol' Bear had an "in" somewhere....

Wasn't the Bama game (in the 10-year series in the 80's) always the second week of October (as Bama always followed PSU with Tennessee in the third week of October)?? At least that's my recollection of how / when it was when I was at Penn State in the 80s...

Yeah, I've always thought way too much is made of this weather thing regarding individual players. I mean, it's not like a cold rain is going to turn Fields into some scared little boy. He didn't get to where he is by letting something like that dramatically affect his performance.

In 1981, Penn State closed the season in November ...
