4th and short in your own territory - analytics logic???

watching Chargers and Ravens. two 4th and short failures by Chargers in their own territory. they refer to the logic being the "analytics".

anyone see what those analytics say? when you fail, it is like a turnover. there seems to be a division among coaches on this. It seems to me that the context of the game has to be a big factor here, and it cannot be an absolute. so if you have a defensive game with field position, you might want to punt even if you are say at the opponent 45 yd line.

When I was coaching in hs we compiled a bunch of data and basically because High School kickers couldn't make more than 35 yard field goals we went for it anytime it was less than five yards and we were past our own 40 yard line. But when you're playing the Ravens I have guys like Justin Tucker who can hit 65 yarders it doesn't make sense because they are already in field goal range

If it’s 4th and inches I’d almost always go for it. If I had an offense that knew the sneak and had an at least average sized QB. It’s almost guaranteed from 4th and inches
