Penn State handed out an offer over the weekend and got a quick decision on Sunday. The Nittany Lions have added a commitment from Ankeny (Iowa) Ankeny Centennial kicker Jake Pinegar.

“It was the complete family environment,” Pinegar told Lions247 on Saturday evening when explaining his choice. “The players made me feel welcome, it’s big-time football and I love the coaches.”

Pronounced like "vinegar" but with a "p."

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Class of 2018 specialist worked out for the Nittany Lions on Friday night at camp. Prior to that, he impressed the staff at the Northern Illinois camp in June.

Pinegar is also an athlete, earning all-state honors as a defensive back last season.

He’s a two-time all-District selection in football and a three-time all-conference member in soccer.

He also finished sixth in the state in the 110-meter hurdles.

Boasting a huge leg that won him the kickoff competition at Oklahoma in June, Pinegar is the No. 13 kicker in the nation according to Kohl’s Kicking. Here’s what they had to say about him.

“Pinegar recently attended the 2017 Midwest Spring Showcase.

He is one of the best athletes in the 2018 class. He has explosive hips and fast leg.

He charted well by making 9 field goals and also averaged 71.75 yards per kickoff.

Having the ability to call on his "A" ball will need to be a focus this summer.

His "A" ball on kickoffs, is in the top 5 nationally.

Pinegar attended the 2016 Winter Showcase Camp in December. He charted very well going 8 out of 10 on field goals.

He shows great control of his leg and with continued work on his leg strength he will do some special things as a specialist.”

I read that he got a scholarship offer. I'm very surprised because PSU already has 2 scholarship kickers (Barbir & Gilikin). I don't think many teams make a habit of carrying 3 scholarship kickers.
