60 Minutes never

MSU isn't a beagle like Penn State who is going to roll over and expose their belly when someone says their name on TV. Rod-less Erickson (for a medal and a couple hundred thousand bucks) and his cronies entered self-preservation mode in order to keep their business contacts and money afloat. Kind of like our current president. Money rules all.

Agree, but Tennessee or UCLA was just as threatened as MSU was. Jebus. If they indicted Jerry and Raykovitz, even the PSU morons woulda had enough sense to be quiet.

In telling the PSU story to people who know nothing about the case, easily the.most stunning fact is that Raykovitz is still practicing in SC.
Would he be on the states witness list in exchange for immunity? Can't see how he's still hangin around unless he has a golden parachute.

He isn't on said list. He and Karen Genovese can do whatever they want. They got their $$$ from second mile donors who may or may not be in to kid stuff. I'd say probably most donors to second mile are into pedophilia. They sure didn't object to a goddamn shredder truck being backed up to the facility the day after everything went down, in order to shred all the records. All those donors have been quite silent ever since, yet their tax returns sure show huge deductible donations to the Second Mile. If only we had the investigative genius of one sara ($24,000 a year weather girl) ganim to investigate what really happened. Surely a $24,000 a year pulitzer prize winner who moved to "big-time" atlanta would be all over this, right?

You must be a total effing moron. Thousands of people donated to TSM, including myself. And guess what? We didn't know that Jerry was preying upon these kids for his own sick gratification. We were actually under the impression that it was a good cause for some underprivileged kids who'd had a tough life. Next time a thought comes into your pee-brain, let it pass.

Somewhere out there right now is a child molester whose path will be made easier, whose secret abuse will be facilitated, by the focus in this story on the Karolyis.

We will find out in the years to come that any number of reports made their way to people and orgs, in the govenment and out, whose ONLY JOB it is to protect these kids, who did not protect the kids.

Since the focus is on Boris and Natasha Karolyi, no focus will rest on the government and private orgs which failed here.

As a direct result of this faulty focus driven by clicks and ratings, the government and private orgs which failed to protect these kids will fail to protect the future victims of these as yet unidentified abusers.

We have not learned a damned thing.

Hmmm, so you're saying the focus should be on the actual molestor...interesting take. ;)

They basically said that the karolis standards were so high and impossible that the girls ran into the open arms of nassar. Total 9th place thinking media mentality that if someone is pushed to hard they are the cause for someone like nassar to prey on the weakened individual. Totally bypassed msu altogether and never mentioned that they communicated up the chain all the way to the president at the time. I wonder if the girls that they interviewed from msu are upset in the the way 60 minutes spun it

MSU -- yes, the report did make mention of Michigan State University -- but only once as they said 'he was employed there until recently'. They also made several references to his being held in Michigan without bail, in a grey jump suit and handcuffs.

To 60 Minutes, USA Olympics/Gymnastics is a bigger fish to fry because of the multitude of 'gyms' in every city and small town courting young girls (aged 9-15) and their Mothers to be part of an athletic team. And several perps downstream have been jailed because of the Indy Star investigation.

Unfortunately, the INTEGRITY of Lou Anna (MSU) and like minded management types/administrators will be called into question only IF they have a national presence. Their CYA will be mind numbing.

No you have not.

I thought you were oppose to any rush to judgement.

Someone who rallied for due process.

But here you are, posting and judging, assuming guilt, not only to Nassar but to others.

Did I miss the trial?

The tinfoil Joebot brigade only cares about those things when it relates to Joe/PSU FB. You. HAVE. been. Exposed.

Yep. Women's gymnastics are to Olympic Sports and TV ratings what JVP was to NCAA Football. Michigan State is the ratings equivalent of Rhythmic Gymnastics, a non prime time event.

Unfortunately there is some truth in that. The media is mainly interested in ratings.

They don't want to hear from FBI profiler Clemente on how 'nice guy' predators get away with this and how to spot it and stop it. They want a person to point their finger at to blame (and it's never the actual abuser. It's person 'X' who allowed the abuser to commit crimes).

Then you have the lawyers that sadly live for this stuff. 1 California attorney supposedly now has 40 people claiming to be victims. California? The Karoli camp was in Texas and Nassar worked at Michigan St.

I didn't see the 60 minutes story but it's making international headlines today with the main focus a callous and 'hostile, pressure filled environment' (i.e. Culture) of USA gymnastics and the Karolis who were (allegedly) only concerned with medals.

I will take a few minutes to explain to you what I have explained to the Sandusky Innocence Project many times. I am a private citizen. I do not need proof beyond a reasonable doubt to know that a guy 37000 child porn images is a danger to children.

I can make a judgment similar to that I would make in keeping my own kids away from this guy.

How about we put this another way? I will put up a thousand dollars of my own money against yours that he is guilty of some crime involving child sexual abuse. If you would rather it were $10,000, then get your money up. Tom McAndrew can hold it; winner donates all the money to a charity of his choice.

Rush to Judgment? That might be an issue if we were talking about a guy arrested in real time. Not so much after 20-25 years and 60 victims coming forward already. Before he is put in prison he deserves a full and fair trial. But I am not waiting for that to make my decisions any more than I would with Timothy McVeigh.

Man, are you ever a dupe.

By the way, I Rallied for Resignations. I was not interested in whether the BOT went to jail, I just wanted them to stop ruining my University.

So what you're saying is that the dozens of young women claiming they were sexually molested by Nassar over a 20 year period, those who claimed they told numerous people at MSU about what Nassar did to them and were told they misunderstood, he's a really nice guy who wouldn't do something bad like that, or just told to say nothing... all those young ladies are just greedy lying scum.

I think you're the one who's been exposed. Again.

The OP said MSU was not mentioned......I simply posted that it was....no context....no subliminal meaning. What is your issue pal.
I take exception with being referred to as 'pal'.

They mentioned he worked at MSU. Big deal. Had reporters said that the JS scandal was about TSM's inability and reluctance to control JS and just mentioned that he used to work at PSU, the last five years would have played entirely different. That qualifies as MSU being mentioned but did they elaborate and state that Nassar had molested gymnasts there? Did he mention Simon or any admins at MSU?

The story is the Karolyis and that they may have enabled the molestations at their Texas camp and that's what the media will focus on.

No I am saying you are a hypocrite, though. I will pray for you.

If penn state said what Paul said then they would first ask when are you going Joepa. Penn state couldn't win. As someone stated Sandusky was the criminal as is nassar but it does sound like girls at msu were saying to people all along that this guy was a pedophile let's call him what he is but with women we can't say that? The admin at msu turned their heads instead. But as I said before the media is consumed with other things this day and this story has already played out 6 years before so they have moved on.

Penn state couldn't win.

Penn State went way beyond being unable to win. Penn State through Freeh condemned its own culture at all levels of the university, and through the statements of their own trustees hung every alum out to dry.

No other university would ever do this. No sane person condemns anybody who ever went to MSU as being responsible for the crimes of this doctor. On the other hand every Penn Stater has to wear some perceived cloak of shame, as well as anybody who lives within 100 miles of Centre County. The glorious admins sit back and tacitly applaud it. Penn State pulled out all stops in deflecting blame, including eating their own. It was unconscionable.
