8-4.

What changed is that the Big 10 is way down this year, because all of the warts that you stated were and still are true, especially the ridiculous field goal kicking. A program like PSU never should have as unreliable a kicker as it does now, and this has been going on for multiple seasons with him. This is another position in which OSU and Michigan always seem to have an extremely reliable player, if not a future NFL player.
Yeah, to be clear, I am not suggesting Penn State should not be better. I think I am just resigned to the fact that with these players and these coaches, I never saw reason to expect anything more than 9-3.

In modern day college football with more parity, only programs like Bama, OSU and a very few others, which change year after year, should enter any season expecting to lose fewer than three games a season, especially programs in areas of the country in which the traditional recruiting areas are drying up, like PA. Unfortunately, except for a brief period in Franklin's tenure (2017-2019), PSU never has been in this category, and I question whether it ever will be on a consistent basis. In this respect, college football has become much more like the NFL, in which even the best teams end up losing a third of their games in most seasons.

Except for when Michigan didn't a few years ago, with the plane flying recruit (forget his name).

Exactly right. And in any one CF game, anything can happen.

PSU had OSU on the ropes at home and I still don't buy that Michigan is that much better than PSU and keep in mind that it was at Michigan. I just believed the game got away from PSU in the 2nd half. It happens some times.

Replaying another game against Michigan - at PSU - would be a different outcome. PSU might have one of the top 2 or 3 crowds in CF and Urban Meyer agrees. He's constantly saying it's the toughest place to play

Most on here simply don't understand how important home-field advantage is - important in NFL and even moreso in CFB.

That seems like moving the goal posts.
Not one game on the remaining schedule holds less than a 70% chance at winning...Franklin doesn't get off the hook when he blows 2 more games in my book.
Why do you think he will?

PSU will be at least a 10 point fav or more in the remaining 4 games. The only way we do not finish 4-0, 10-2 is if Franklin finds a way to screwup the preparation for the final 4 games.

I hope like hell I'm wrong because it was signify a positive change.
So to get better we need to do what? Fire Franklin? Then who should be hire? And be realistic - people who bitch without realistic solutions are worthless. I am sure a boss of yours told you that at least once I hope.

You can't be afraid to fire a semi-successful coach because of the unknown.
See Georgia firing Richt and hiring a coaching with absolutely no HC experience.
Smart is 46 and has won 74 (and counting) games in 7 years
Franklin isn't capable of getting us to the next level and therefore must go
I don't understand this fear people have

Again - and replace him with who? BS to just say fire him - what is your plan or do you want to wing it like Nebraska- spare me.

Did you know Smart was going to be at the level he is?
There's a ton of guys I'd hire over keeping him right now. Sadly I don't get to make the choice
The fact you even brought up Nebraska shows that you're keeping him over fear not because you think he's the right coach. Grow a pair.

The thing is, for every "Nebraska" there is a "Georgia" for an answer.

And let's get one thing straight: Once they stopped cheating with Osborne, they fell immediately. Finally, we don't need to go 500 miles in any direction to recruit like Nebraska.

Oh for sh#t’s sake - OK at least I know where you clowns are coming from - I want to win also but when you sell your soul it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Clowns? Because the objective is to win?
Do you believe Franklin will ever win a national title? If not, he has to go.

10-2 and when playoffs expand 10-2 will get you in every single time.
Just my opinion but........
This is the reason I'm against expanding the playoffs. You are correct that if we finish 10-2, we would make the playoffs under the expanded 12 team format. And.... we don't f**king deserve to be involved in a nat'l championship playoff!!!!!!!

Just my opinion......
If you consider 10-2 a GREAT season........you have accepted the fact that we are no longer elite.

Many nfl teams win super bowl from wildcard.
Not all 1-4 seeds win the final four.
The Phillies are tied 2-2 in World Series, they were last seed to get in.

do those teams not deserve it?

Your objective might be to win a national championship but I don't think the University is in the same boat. That might be changing, but I think right now they are happy with things as they are.

As you said "your opinion" - you never know when you get hot and opening the playoffs to more teams is only fair since the level of competition in the various conferences doesnt make for a level playing field either.

First of all, the current system is not a "playoff" - it's an Invitational. It is beyond absurd to say that only 4 teams should be involved in the postseason of an 11 Conference 131 team field (counting Independents as a conference). It would be equivalent to only having 10 teams in the NCAA Division I Basket Postseason. Or no postseason in NFL (4/131 = 3%, 32 x 3%= 1). Utterly absurd to say NCAA D1 Football should determine the Champion via an "Invitational" rather than a true playoff structure as this year is quickly proving again.

If it isn't then the powers that be need to be fired and are a bigger issue than Franklin. I don't see spending the money on a coach that we're spending without trying to win titles.
