A CFP view from outside PA

3 of the 4 final teams are from the north. Finebaum must be losing his mind. I predict OSU and PSU for the NC. I do hope OSU plays Texas and then ND. I see Penn State as OSU's biggest threat to win it all.
Out of curiosity, why Penn State over ND?
Plus, shouldn't you want an all-Big Ten final?

What I want is an OSU NC. I think that OSU matches up better against ND than PSU. Also, it is hard to beat a team twice in a season. The Ducks found that out. Motivation is such a big factor in football.
I don't think playing Ohio State twice was a factor--this was a very different, motivated Ohio State team as you mentioned motivation. But the motivation for Ohio State is all coming from the loss to Michigan.

What specifically do you think makes ND a better matchup? Curious. Because I think ND's offense is tougher for Ohio State because of Leonard's ability to run and their WRs being far better. We saw what OSU did against our receivers.

PSU always plays OSU tough. This is true even in years when I didn't think that Penn State had the talent to stay with the Buckeyes. This year I think the talent overall between the 2 teams is closer than most people think. I also think Penn State's Dline matches up well against OSU's Oline. PSU's running backs are also very good and they have the best TE in the country. I like an OSU matchup with ND better. They have to get past Texas first. I don't like the fact the game is in Texas. At this stage of the playoffs teams should not have home field advantage. Southern teams often do.

Their WR are not far better….When your TE has 98 catches and a back has 40 there isn’t going to be a lot of production from WR. Even with that Wallace has more catches and TDs than any of NDs WRs.

Their WRs are better...better route runners, better hands with way more depth. Switch QBs and their numbers skyrocket

QB has to give our receivers a chance to make plays. He is particularly conservative which on one hand is a blessing and the other a curse.

Anyone remember USC where he had no choice but to let it rip? Not the greatest throws, but his receiver (that schlep Fleming) twice bailed him out with great catches in tight windows.

Right...give them a chance...rewatch the end of the first half and the three dropped TDs or against Ohio State with Wallace dropping a TD that led to a pick. He gives his guys a chance. See the 2nd TD to Warren. Allar placed it perfectly giving him a chance. Allar doesn't force many throws but when he believes his guys can win a battle he gives them a chance. Sadly other than Warren it rarely works

Notre Dame’s WRs are better than Penn State’s WRs? Sure as hell didn’t look like it yesterday.

You are a broken record and continually give Allar way too much credit. He is 20 years old and has been better this year but is still learning his craft. Call a spade a spade when it is deserved; though I do not think you can. If we listen to you the kid is superman, and his crap does not stink.

How many passes did those superior Georgia receivers drop this year? Heck, even the best tight end in the country has a few recently he did not haul in. This is not the NFL and very few guys are at that level. Our guys have on occasion not come up with combat catches, but it is not like they are dropping easy balls.

I could live with it also, but don't know if James can. He'll need to be under a watch for the night, in a padded room.

Georgia had way too many drops. Who's arguing that. You want Allar to force throws to players that have proven they can't make contested catches

I wonder if there's a chance that BiG teams finish 1st 2nd, and 3rd in the final AP poll.
  • Assume OSU beats Texas and gives then 3 losses
  • Assume PSU beats ND
  • Texas would finish 13-3 compared to Oregon who finished 13-1
In this scenario I'd think AP would rank Oregon ahead of Texas. Of course PSU has to beat ND in order to make this happen. If PSU loses they could drop as low as #5 because they could fall behind Oregon.

A reasonable take, I see it similar.

Honestly, why do you care about the rankings? I'm just trying to understand
As far as I'm concerned--we're at worst tied for 3rd in the nation, if we win then we're 1st or 2nd regardless of what biased voters say. We earned that on the field.
No one talks about other college sports as "Duke made the Final Four but they were ranked 6"--no one cares they were ranked 6th--they made the final four

You might be right our DL matches up well with your OL but it sure didn't look that way in the final five minutes of this year's game when the PSU D could not get off the field to give the offense another chance to tie the game.
