I tried not to address this subject because I think it's silly. But there are too many of our Nittany Lion brethren that are being trolled into responding to a joke of an issue. The idea that Cael can't coach because he mostly gets top ranked wrestlers is an obvious ploy to get under our skin. Getting #1 ranked athletes doesn't disprove coaching ability, but proves the exact opposite, that he HAS to be the best coach. A #1 recruit has their choice to go anywhere they want, so why would they chose somewhere lacking in the coaching department?! Maybe if they were mindless lemmings (which is what the idea suggests) they would all just come to PSU because "all the other #1's are doing it." But we know these young men and their families are carefully choosing the program that will best develop their talents. If hitting your thumb with a hammer or peeing up a rope is your thing, by all means, continue going on the other fan sites and get offended. They know the argument is stupid, they just can't believe some haven't figured it out yet.

Remember JRob is not the idiot making this baseless, lame argument. Cael is a great coach. JRob has done so much to advance the sport of wrestling and is a truly amazing person. Please don't lie down with pigs on this. Jealousy has created these claims that Cael can't coach, but the scoreboard is the one great mediator in any debate. You guys have scoreboard. The most hostile group throwing this crap is a few members of the Hawkeye fan base, but it isn't coming from Tom Brands. We are incredibly lucky in our sport to have so many strong leaders and makers of men. I would be proud to have my sons wrestle for Cael,Brands,JRob, or Ryan. The biggest mistake we make as a wrestling community is not embracing the greatness of our warriors. I feel lucky that I have been able to watch with edge of my seat anticipation the wrestling of Ben Askren, Cael, DT, Q,Ruth,Ness,Ramos,Metcalf,Streebler,I-Marr,Nolf,Zain,Nico,Bo,Caldwell,JO,Nato,Snyder,Long,Varner,St. John,Gilman,Clark,Gadson,Realbuto,Dean,Cox etc.,etc.etc. Try it out.

I am so much looking forward to watching Friday night! I probably enjoy watching Jason Nolf as much as any of you guys. 125 gives me chills. I might have to close my eyes if they send Hunter out against Zain because I don't want to watch that. I would have loved to see a truly healthy Hunter vs Zain match. 174 is going to be fun. I feel like a grandparent getting all of the joy without the stress the true PSU/tOSU guys have to feel. Cael has accomplished so much as a wrestler and coach he really doesn't need anybody defending him against a weak minded enemy.

But jammen never has a valid point. In fact, that is his ONLY point. I'll give him this though, he is consistently irrelevant.
Being new to these boards, it's obvious that there is a lot of deep rooted history amongst long time posters. I have nothing against anyone who cares so much about their team that they continue posting in the face of dire straights. I disagree with the methods and depths that some go to, but free speech can be inconvenient that way. Not intended to be preachy towards you El-Jefe (how do you do,sir?)
That's all fine and good, and that doesn't apply to Jammen. He occasionally posts out of love for Minny, and much more frequently as a thumb to the eye of other teams' fans -- not just us, he does some of his "finest work" on HR.

Just so we are clear on something free speech has NOTHING to do with this. Jammen is a troll, pure and simple but he has NOT been banned here so nobody has limited his right to free speech. However, you seem to imply by bringing up the subject that other posters here don't have the same right to free speech if we use it to call out jammen. Is that what you meant to say?
I have a sneaky feeling that deep down Jammen loves watching PSU wrestle and he clearly loves the sport. My point is don't let anybody take your sense of right and wrong even if it is just a message board. Jammen is pretty funny, and I would miss him posting. I would also miss the great fun you all had at his expense in regards to the t-shirt fiasco. My world is a little brighter sitting here on company hours reading his verse and waiting for a witty response. That is all done in fun imo.
Absolutely not! Everyone has the right to respond any way they deem proper. I've gotten a pretty good indication of who and what Jammen is. Why indulge the troll? Isn't that exactly his goal? Maybe it's because I have a buddy who does this kind of stuff (not on here). I know him well enough to know that he's a really good person, he just takes perverse joy in being a trouble maker behind the keyboard.
jammen is like the atheist sitting outside of the church on Sunday morning. It's important to simplify and repeat everything to him, and it only re-affirms your beliefs and makes them stronger.

Or for a PSU reference: Jammen is the Willard Preacher, yelling at 18-yo girls that they're sluts for wearing shorts and skirts in 85-deg heat. He's been doing it for decades, it's long been a running joke whether or not he knows it, and the only people who engage him do so purely for entertainment purposes.
Jammenz is that rare breed of poster where you truly, truly can't discern if he is a troll or REALLY that off-base on every topic.
It's a lazy argument made up by people who are incessantly jealous of success and need to say things like this to justify why they can't compete. The Penn State coaches approach in terms of weight loss, the pace of the season and how to build to a peak in March, the right mix of intensity and fun in practice over a grueling season, the creation of the NLWC and building a wrestling epicenter for world class wrestlers to train, and specific recruiting for the style of wrestling they have come to expect has created a dynamic environment in Rec Hall that kids want to be a part of. Couple that with Penn State being at the heart of the best high school wrestling state in the country and you have what you have.
To suggest that talent alone is the reason for Penn State's success is lunacy in the same way that suggesting Alabama football only wins bc they have 5 star recruits and that Nick Saban isn't a good football coach, he just has a ton of 5 star talent.

Why would it matter if he cant coach? Is there any team out there that wouldn't want him to lead their program right now? Look at the number of football coaches that weren't great players, the number of successful business people that were written off in high school as not smart or lazy....to me this is no different. You can debate all you want about whether he can "coach" or not because there is really no way to prove that he can. That is why certain people want to harp on this....it is the only thing they can grasp at. They want to separate recruiting from coaching when everyone knows that both are important. Better to ignore it and accept the fact that the results on the mat are all that matters. For that, my money's on Cael.

Yep, Cael wins only because he grabs #1 recruits. Because Cody Gardner and Destin McCauley (who admittedly, in some rankings, had dropped to #2 behind McIntosh) turned out so well for their respective schools...right?

I get the P4P thing since Wood lost to Correnti, Karam is among the studs at arguably the toughest HS weight in the country and #2 to him last year was Trampe. I think a legit argument could be made with Trampe being undefeated. That said, Wood is just better IMO.

Being raised in Iowa and being a die hard Hawk fan, I hate that PSU is getting the level of talent they are...and kicking our a**es at the same time. But trying to say Cael can't coach is like trying to say Nick Saban can't coach. Getting the talent is only half the battle...getting the talent to deliver the goods is real coaching. I hate it, but right now you all are on top and everyone else, including Iowa, is chasing...and losing badly (at least this year). At least the B10 is on top...I'd rather it be Cael winning than Okie State or Mizzou
