As you've seen over the years, I'm constantly searching for indications of interest by HS wrestlers in PSU.

This one is a bit different, in that it's a kid that is going JUCO, but is interested in wrestling for PSU or other programs in a year or two.

Cody Candelaria is a 2X State Champion in New Mexico. He won this past season @ 138. He's signed with Otero Junior College. You can read a bit about him, and his hopes for the future at THIS LINK

Rutgers (the perennial top 10 team), Nebraska (JB's program), Iowa State (home to Gable and Sanderson) or Penn State (the perennial top 1 team) is an interesting grouping. Surprising Ohio State (the perennial top 1 recruiting program) isn't listed. That would have been all of the top teams.

He has the right first name :). Keep working and I suspect you will achieve your goal. Best of luck.

You forgot Iowa (perrenial top 1 attendance, perrenial top 1 next year)

Jim McKay. Fond memories. Great announcer. Born and lived in Philadelphia till the age of 14 . Overbrook section of the city, went to St. Joe Prep while here. Then went to Baltimore and well beyond. Died in ‘08. Great, great announcer.

Brings back memories of the great Lindsey Nelson, doing college football , and a guy who was also from Phila., Jack Whitaker, who appears to still be alive at 95.

Indeed.
Played w/him in one of those celebrity scramble golf outings years ago. He is a character [not in a bad way]. For starters, he didn't even bring clubs and he's left-handed [loaner stock @clubhouse pretty thin]. He was a trip at the buffet thoo_O:). Goofy.

Side note: the next year our group got LC Greenwood. Now there's a serious, serious man. Complete opposites. Both great.

I heard Candelaria and thought Bo Candelaria (Middletown PA Dist 3) State 3rd at 145 AAA behind Alton & McKinney...but that was way too many years ago (2010).

I've certainly learned to take seriously the recommendations to remember the names of Malvern Prep wrestlers, so will do! Cannot wait to watch Michael Bear (I'm keeping a former typo) rep the blue & white!

Very proud of Nick. Great accomplishment and we’re expecting Beard-level performances out of him in the near future. Kid is growing like a weed and will either be at 182 or 195, depending on where him and his other Prep AA teammate, Andrew Connolly, weigh when the season starts.
