Except painful lead in to the discussion. I was waiting for “Pennsylvania pork producers 200 lbs of pork products”
Wasserman's argument is basically, "we have a lot of talent coming back" and "Oregon and OSU lost a lot". Nothing substantive at all. Very superficial. No discussion about the teams they played last year (13 wins over bad to mediocre teams, 3 losses to good teams) or who they play this year. Totally whiffs on the impact of a new DC who historically had units that regressed in year one. Right now, nothing is set in stone. Wasserman really loses credibility when he talks defense. Durant is not a run defender. He is a one dimensional pass rusher. Rojas is not a coverage guy. He is a one dimensional heat seeking missile. He outs himself as the superficial PFF guy. He even acknowledged he hasn't looked at the schedule. What a clown.
Probably never watched a full game live. Right now, Oregon and Ohio State are likely losses. Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana are 50/50 games. Michigan State, Rutgers and UCLA are all likely wins but have a shot.

We are still climbing the mountain. There will always be doubts until we win a Natty or get damn close. By close I mean we can beat tOSU, Oregon, and Michigan. I think the talent is there but we crapped the bed way too many times against the blue bloods. And while we made a good run last year, we crapped the bed against ND.
Most of these "predictions" go like this: predict NYY, LAD or Houston in MLB. Predict the GS Warriors or Celtics in NBA. Predict KC or GB in football. Whoever won the last two years is predicted to be a finalist next year. College football? GA, tOSU, Oregon. UM and AL fading.
We have the talent. I am not sure if we have the confidence, the drive, the hunger.
You are right, I don't mind being wrong, which is why are rarely am. Throwing modesty aside, it is also why I am successful. I am not afraid to speak my mind. Clowns like AWS will latch onto part of prediction that was wrong while ignoring everything I was right about which is far more significant.
Started reading this post, but didn't look who had typed it. Got to the part that called Nebraska, Iowa, and Indiana 50/50 games, and I said to myself, this has to be Wallace. 🙄🙄
They were realistic and I liked their review of the LB's which seemed spot on and more realistic than the criticism some here sprew. They didn't seem to know much about the DL roster, and see the secondary positively as I do as well.
Should have a good team. The most encouraging thing to me is the OLine. We will be a run heavy team but there will be times that Allar will need to make plays. Not sold on the receivers and while we will have some real good talent on Defense, the depth will have to be developed quickly in September. I thought the guy in the podcast was right in terms of us maybe being a top five team but the book is still out on anything beyond that.
The next time you are right will be your first. Still waiting for you to tell me the names of the 3 Big Ten QBs you claim are better than Allar in 2025.
Whether you like Klatt or not, he's very plugged in to CFB. The fact that he has PSU ranked #1 lends a little bit of credence. I know he's trying to get click bait, but at the same time, being a national analyst, he doesn't want to look like a jackass. What a wonderful weekend at PSU! Daughter graduated, went to the sports museum, watched Lacrosse win for 8$ admission, and celebrated daughter's graduation at the Tavern! Almost heaven! Lets GO PSU!
Except that I have been consistently right on just about everything the last two decades. I never said there were three QBs better than Allar, I said there might be. Reading comprehension is a skill you should learn.

We crapped the bed against ND??? ND played for the NC, came into the game 13-1 and was highly ranked for most of the season..... and we lost on a last second FG in a game that could have easily gone the other way.... and that's "crapping the bed". Some of you people are just comical with your claims.
For the most part I am with Obliviax on this one. PSU did crap the bed against ND. That was a very beatable ND team. Allar missing a wide open Singleton for a TD and of course the INT at the end of the game were both crap the bed moments.

BTW, I had breakfast with a Steelers "insider" today. Not only is he saying there will be a big announcement today, he said the Steelers are enaored with Drew Allar and will draft him next year if he is available when the Steelers draft with the first pick as long as he plays as well or better than last season.
Sounds like an over reaction to me. A try to make a blanket statement when blanket statements don't really apply.
Players make plays, and sometimes miss plays. 18-23 year old humans don't execute exactly on every occasion no matter the expectations of those that put them under a microscope. That's life.
Yes 18-23 year olds are not going to execute every play every time. Neither will Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady BUT it is executing the plays in the most important moments that make the difference between champions and non champions . Just look at the Jack Sawyer strip sack and 3rd and 11 to JS as examples of executing big plays at the most important moments.
Agreed. Now go back and check the age and experiences of the QBs that played at elite levels in the playoffs. Almost All of them were 23 or 24 years old. I think one was 22. Most transferred in from the programs for their Jr and/or Sr years where they were successful but wanted to play for a team in the hunt for a Natty and improve their profile. At the same time, also compare their WR corp and all of them far exceeds PSU in terms of WR quality.
Allar made a poor pass to Singleton but it was still a pass he should have caught. We had the TD pass to Wallace that turned into an INT. Remember 4 downs inside the 3 yd line without Warren getting a touch?
PSU has too many crap the bed moments in big games. It seems more like a lack of confidence than a lack of physical talent. I'm not sure how you coach confidence other than through repetition but somehow it's been missing during big games for PSU. Maybe they just need a couple of breakthrough plays.
I didn't like the part of the analysis discussing DE after DDS and DT after Ford & Durant. Saying that PSU always has guys at those positions is a bit weak IMO.

Yea, ND was so beatable that's why they went into the Semifinal game and the Title Game with the nation's best record, 13-1 and 14-1 respectively (and went into the CFP Playoffs ranked #5 and beat #2 UGa to reach the National Semifinals). You saying ridiculous, opinionated nonsense doesn't trump actual FACTS. PSU losing a National Semifinal by a final minute FG to a team coming into the game with the Nation's best record and who just easily defeated the #2 Seed to get into the Semifinal, hardly qualifies as "crapping the bed". You clearly have no idea what the terms "crapping the bed" means. Acting like PSU should be embarrased about losing a National Semifinal Game on a last minute FG, to a team who entered the game with the nation's best record and had just beat the Playoff's #2 Seed to get into the Semifinal Game, is just ridiculous. As is acting like PSU deserves zero credit for (and shouldn't be proud of) making it to the National Semifinals and coming within a last minute FG of making the Title Game.

Klatt’s analysis was based on the number of quality returners PSU will have. He pointed out that we are similar to TOSU last year and Michigan the year before in that respect. However, TOSU also brought in some star quality transfers as well as a couple of freshmen difference makers. I’m not sure we have done either in addition to what we have coming back. We have done a good job adding depth and competition but it remains to be seen if we have brought in difference makers.
Kind of agree, the guys at those positions are young and unproven, but at least according to Knowles, the talent is there. (Per the Brenneman interview)
Lack of mental toughness or fortitude. That is what it is. We have a long history under Franklin of not making clutch plays in winning time. USC Rose Bowl, OSU on multiple occasions. Michigan in '21 and '23, ND, Oregon.
Interesting comment that Allar is the most polarizing quarterback in college football. He certainly is here. The PFF guy says he's a top 10 quarterback nationally, that's hard to dispute. But on the other hand you can be a top 10 quarterback nationally and still a long way from the kind of quarterbacks that win national championships. The kind of big-time play that Ohio State got out of WIll Howard and Michigan got out of McCarthy, Allar hasn't shown that yet. But he should have the supporting cast around him for that to be possible this year.
My favorite forecast from this video -- if it turns out to be true -- is that PSU should be able to run the ball so well that they might only need Allar to throw 20 times a game. That would be fine with me.

Howard & McCarthy had better players surrounding them. Just think how much difference it would have made if PSU had Marvin Harrison, Jeremiah Smith, or Caleb Downs? Or if Wallace keeps control of the TD pass last year instead of having the ball wrestled away for an INT. The difference in those close games comes down to 1 or 2 plays and 1 or 2 players.
That said I agree that if Allar wants to be considered elite he has to be able to put the team on his back and overcome the talent gap at other positions.
A lot of us felt that way last year with a strong OL, Singleton, Allen, and good blocking TEs. But we needed 391 passing yards to beat USC. We only ran for 117 yds vs Minny (32 on trick play to Reynolds). We couldn't score on 4 tries from the 3 yd line vs OSU.
It would be great if we could dominate teams with a ground and pound offense but I don't think it's going to be that easy against better opponents.
Klatt is blowhard just like Herbie build you up just to cut you down. The ref's told Klatt that they were going to let them play today. F that Clown.
But will there be a major talent gap at other offensive positions?
Not at Running Back, probably not at Offensive Line which has talent, experience, and depth, and the receiving corps overall appears to be improved (Tight End possibly good, but I admit not Tyler Warren good).

There are reasons people like Klatt are putting Penn State at the top of their pre-season rankings.
I saw big time play out of him against USC and the first two play off games, but yes, he needs to bring it against Ohio State and Oregon and in the playoffs this year.
Another year with four/five returning starters will certainly make a difference. But yes, to your point, we need to burn teams with big passing plays when they load the box.
That aside I'm just glad a certain Defensive Coordinator is gone.
