A real Michigan Man

Here's a key excerpt:

"As part of the agreement with RERI, university officials also agreed not to sell the stake for at least two years. That meant U-M didn't need to file a government form that would have alerted the IRS to how much RERI originally paid, according to legal experts"

All parties involved are shameless and seemingly active (or negligently passive) participants in tax fraud.

Think about the money involved here when you rail about welfare tax cheats. No one cheats like really venal, rich people

I admit to disliking Michigan fans. I also have a dislike for the name "Michigan Man" as if it denotes some form of superiority. The attached link shows how a 1 percenter and Michigan Man attempted to scam the IRS with donations to U of M.

That guy isn't a 1%, he is a .001% and one the richest guys in the country. He owns the Miami Dolphins and up there with Pegula in wealth, if not more.

Guys like that do things like this. It's not a reflection on the school or other alums. I hate Michigan football too, but this an absurd stretch to link the two.

Ross has donated over $300 million to his school. More than I will manage!

The article said UM was more than a passive participant in helping with the tax fraud scheme - they violated numerous University protocols so they should be tied to this.

But if it were a Penn Stater, it would be yet another example of our culture problem.

It's not about the amount of money it's about the crime.

A welfare recipient who claims they are disabled yet are perfectly able to work is just as much a criminal as a billionaire who tries to cheat the Federal Government of tax revenue.

These tax schemes existed a lot back in the day. That's why we have museums full of donated artwork.

Correct. However, punishments are generally stepped up the higher the amounts (e.g. Petit v Grand Larceny), so not exactly apples to apples, though the intent is the same.

About twice as wealthy as Pegula.

I've got all the evidence I need to make that determination ;)

I did an investigation, didn't have subpoena power, and didn't talk to any of the key witnesses.... gave it the old Freeh treatment. I came to the conclusion that the most powerful people at Michigan conspired to cover this up to protect their 3rd place football program.

As a penalty, all national titles since 1950 must be vacated. So yes, the half banner from 1997 must be taken down and sent to Nebraska. In addition, all conference championships for the last decade must be vacated.

All of this makes total sense
