A surprisingly fair Sandusky scandal article from the Wash Post.

75% of the people in this country probably aren't smart or literate enough to read something that long

I thought it was fair, too

WaPo is "Fake News" my Fuhrer told me so. So, I don't need to read it. I already know truth; cause my Tennessee mountain neighbors validate that fact daily. Besides, that article has all those damn words and all that damn information and it hurts when I read anything more than a single four word slogan or if it can't fit on a yard sign. Some tee-shirts even have too many words on em, but baseball caps almost always have just the right amount of words.

You need help.

It is long. But it is pretty fair. Funny that the media likes to stick their opinion into every piece of news, but not this piece. I feel like they know what PSU, the NCAA and Freeh did was wrong but they don't want to say it or face the backlash of power.

This is totally incorrect:

Students passed through in packs, many in shirts that said “Unrivaled,” the motto Coach James Franklin introduced a few years ago to replace “Success with Honor.”
IIRC, there was this notion of "One Team" or some such drivel during the BO'B years. Unrivaled was never put in place to replace Success with Honor. My beef with this is that they are suggesting CJF is running from the JoePa legacy, and I feel CJF is not doing that at all. At every chance, CJF speaks favorably of Joe. It is the panty-assed BOT that is afraid that anything brought up about Joe is another threat to their malfeasance or worse.

Success with Honor was never a trademark owned by the university either. Unrivaled is.

Still a lot of gaps, but, this is about as far of an article as I've seen from the national media.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/grap...fter-sandusky-scandal/?utm_term=.bb64441c8a0a
The Post plans to run a follow up story next week. I hope that some of the gaps get filled in or that more detail is added to this story.

To wit:
1. The Post wrote that I believe McQueary gave a benign description of the shower incident in 2001 and a more vivid description in 2010 -- however, I told the Post that belief is buttressed by Rod Erickson's notes which say exactly that.

2. The Post states Baldwin didn't know what she was doing because she'd never represented someone at a grand jury -- however, I told the Post that Baldwin admitted she wasn't Spanier's attorney and intentionally deceived him. Regardless, both Fina and Feudale knew Baldwin wasn't representing Spanier and wasn't allowed to sit in on the grand jury testimony. I don't know how the Post can see that any other way but than the OAG, judge, and Baldwin conspiring to take out Spanier.

Have you contacted the writer to correct him?

It was a pretty good article...a couple of main points on why I believe there was no cover up that were mentioned in the article:
1) No one who McQuery talked to right after the incident said he saw actual sexual acts (Dranov and his father being the two most important people in my analysis). Paterno's testimony is way too vague to take much from.
2) Out of everyone who knew about 2001, no one was told not to call the police and the PSU administrators actually contacted the 2nd Mile, not exactly something you do when you are conspiring..2nd Miles reaction of just putting shorts on seems to confirm the less than specific statements by Mcquery.

The Post should hit Freeh a little harder and it is kind of alluded to in one of the comments. The Post should really call Freeh on his previous statement that Paterno didn't cooperate. He initially claimed that, but then had to walk it back....Freeh was given a chance at speaking with the HC and he declined, that speaks volumes about what his goals were...

I sent him the information about those things on Tuesday, right after we spoke. IMHO, the Post had pretty much settled on the story and weren't considering making changes.
Hello Ray & Anthony, nice to hear from you...
Hope you had a nice Christmas & wish you a happy New Year

Running away from Joe's legacy is a bit strong but I disagree that CJF goes out of his way to speak favorably of Joe. I think Franklin is like most newcomers to PSU. He wants to focus on his team and not get involved with things he had no involvement with. He's smart enough to know that a lof of fans and donors are Joe supporters and he doesn't want to alienate them. That's probably the only reason he says anything about Joe at all.

If he really wanted to run away, he would have never come here to begin with.

Lack of random baseless opinions .... isn't that the criteria these days for calling articles like this one fake news?

Really ...probably the first decent article on this topic ever written.

Tweets are fine as well

Why should that be the case? The important component is the article itself, not the ignorant comments of haters.

I myself never view comments on any news website. There's absolutely no point in doing this.

I know, I usually avoid the comments but was curious if the article was being read or just reacted to. Now I know o_O

Agree. I did not go there. Did not want to spoil it. As Rip stated, "Probably the first decent article ..." Occasionally, I do skip an article altogether and go straight to the comments. It's usually a philly.com article. Too funny. There are some real characters there.

The article gave me hope, then the comments under the article erased it
I made the same mistake. For what is worth, my local paper has a group of the same idiots every day that comment and bicker on every article on any topic. I often think about posting a link to our test board in that comment section to give them a platform with more crazies, but I always stop myself short thinking they may end up here on Tom's board. :D

I will correct that in a blog that I will post tonight -- showing Success With Honor is still very much a part of PSU Athletics.

Travel the country as I’ve done the last year (college tours). He’s frighteningly close to reality. Rural America is a now a third world created within the U.S.
I have travelled the country extensively over the years, and I have always thought rural America was a place that no sane person would ever spend a significant amount of time or want to live. But, that is just my thought. That said, Rip still needs help. All he can get.

Read the article on the Chicago Tribune’s web site about an hour ago.....not sure it made the print version today, hope it did.

A long read.....IMHO about as good as probably most of us can hope for at this stage of the game.

To all the haters, this simple question: Do you honestly think Paterno would let his children and grandchildren play at Sandusky’s if he had any clue whatsoever about Sandusky molesting children?

If you answer no, then why all the hate?

If you answer yes, then just wow, you’re one sick human being.

This was probably the most fair mainstream media treatment of this fiasco, but I wouldn't call it fair. Those of us looking for truth are still cast as "kooks" even though if you look at the credentials of the "truth seekers" are pretty impressive (professors, former federal investigators, etc).

Very low bar. Personally, I'm not at all impressed with it. Basically, pretty sterile.

As an aside, Jay Paterno is a far better writer than this WP guy. He ought to explore better opportunities in this field.
