Personally I think it is a statement that is meant to comfort losers. My issue was not the quote itself, it was the fact that someone thought invoking the name of his holiness somehow had any bearing on Saturday's slaughter.

As an example, the Steelers were horrid last week against the Bills but this week at home, despite adversity, played much better against Tampa Bay. The upcoming Minnesota game is critical for the season.
