Hey all, who would you like to see wrestle in the finals and what weight? It doesn't have to be a favorite or a lock, in fact I'd prefer someone who you just love to root for. What would be some exciting matchups?
133- Austin Desanto/Seth Gross (amazing neutral wrestling)
197- Rasheed/Kollin Moore (wouldn't it be cool to see a buckeye crossfaced?)
125- Lee/Suriano (not the popular vote I'm sure but I love watching their styles)

I think this is a popular choice with PSU fans, it means no bucknuts getting 125 champion points! Nothing personal against him, just better for our team points.

Since you said "wish"

125 - Kuhn-Cruz
133 - Keener-Desanto
141 - Lee-Yianni
149 - Zain-Sorenson
157 - Nolf-Kemerer
165 - Joseph-IMAR
174 - Hall-Valencia
184 - Bo-Martin
197 - Rasheed-Haught
H - Nevills-Snyder

125 will be insane and I think that anyone ranked in the top 15 right now has a legit shot to AA. I think it will be a Nato, Suriano, Lee and Cruz semi with at least one of them getting upset in the Consi Semi and taking 5th.

133 would love for gross to bonus his way through the tournament, seems like a great kid and I love a redemption story.

141 Yianni vs Nick Lee would be my preference but I think its a Meredith rematch with Bryce finally getting it done. (Heil finishes worse than 4th IMHO)

165 Cenzo vs Imar with Cenzo sticking him in the second period after being up by 5 points and Imar conceding defeat to a PSU wrestler once again.

174 Zahid vs Hall, these two are on a different level, any losses would be an upset with coin flip result.

184 Myles and Bo and this time Bo gets payback from freshman year. On a side note PD3 will be lucky to AA, and I hope he's knocked out early.

197 The Iron Sheed vs Moore - Moore up by 3 points going into the 3rd and gets Crossfaced to his back and wonders how the hell that just happened..

One can dream right :)

Gross would ride the piss out of Desanto

Desanto is less than 2 years from getting destroyed by Lee, he's a true Freshman, and guys are talking about him being in the NCAA finals........And it's plausible, and not hilarious. This kid has come a long way.

DeSanto in the finals would be a stretch, but others have done it...Moisey comes to mind.

125....man...I would be VERY surprised to see Cruz, NATO, Lee and Suriano all make it to the semis. That class is wide open with some very strong candidates beyond this 4.

Got something against the big guys? Or just giving it up to Snyder, with no competition?

Can't go against Captain America.. Trust me I wish it weren't the case but I think Snyder goes full animal at NCAA's.. I currently live in Columbus OH and go to as many matches as possible (yes I am a diehard PSU fan living in the heart of Buckeye country and get shit 24/7 for staying loyal to PSU) and Snyder wrestles (warm up) three whole matches before he even wrestles. My wife made the comment "won't he be tired for his match?" and I just replied "he is the best wrestler on the planet so I doubt it"..

I don't think Coon can touch him and there is no one even close to the man in that weight athletically.. Kasper maybe but Kasper isn't going to come close. I also like Snyder as a person. He has made it a point every time I have seen him to shake my sons hand and tell him he had the wrong shirt on (I wear PSU gear to every OSU match I attend whether they wrestle PSU or not).

So I guess the short answer would be No, I don't give anyone a shot. I would say hope I'm wrong but that would be a lie. I want to see him win his last NCAA tournament then go crush the world. Kyle Snyder is not your typical OSU guy.. you can tell he trains elsewhere the majority of the time.
Again just my opinion and crazier things have happened.. Can't wait until March.

Honestly have no pre-tournament dreams/wishes/hope-to-see's/whatever, except that every Nittany Lion is in the finals :).

The tournament thrill for me is certainly, and primarily, to watch our guys wrestle, and have success on the mat. After that, it's the spontaneous storylines that appear and become the lore of each NCAA Championship. Even the Star Spangled Banner was beyond exciting in St. Louis, and included J'den Cox's mom singing one morning, and a sax soloist another. Loved it.

Then there's the wrestling. With 17% (1 in 6) of the contested bouts in the Championship Bracket alone ending in an upset (by seeding), I can't begin to explain the emotion of bracket busting results that cause, at one moment exhilaration, the next disappointment, in many fans.

Upsets will happen in 2018, and they will be plentiful. I get the OP's question, even though, imo, most of the bouts picked won't happen. Here's one man's thoughts...

Thursday Morning - Everyone goes, and wants that 1st win. Except pigtails, it's a seeded guy vs an unseeded guy. For PSU, it's win with bonus!!

Thursday Night - Everybody goes. Lose in consi's, and your tourney is over, so 90 guys will end their dreams here. Win in championships, where most bouts will be between seeded guys, and the dream continues. For PSU, it's win with bonus!!

Friday Morning - I love wrestle-backs, and there will be two rounds. 120 more wrestlers will be knocked out. Most years, a Team Championship is decided by the 3rd through 8th guys...so fans focusing only on the Championship Bracket is misinformed. A win in Session 3, in the Championship Bracket, and you're an AA, and can't finish lower than 6th. Both brackets are exciting...staying alive and earning AA. For PSU, it's win with bonus!!

Friday Night - Ahhh, the semifinals in Championships...doesn't get much better, winner earns a trip to the finals. Two more rounds of wrestle-backs, with the R12 winners earning AA. These are the bouts where wrestlers fight for, or fight to prevent every point, as it could be the difference between going home or earning AA. For PSU, it's win with bonus!!

Saturday Morning - I LOVE SATURDAY MORNING!! It is the least-attended session, yet is the session where significant Placement Points are scored. A team with many wrestlers in wrestle-backs can earn 3.5 Points, plus Bonus, for each wrestler going Saturday Morning. A team can get back into the thick of it on Saturday Morning.

Saturday Night - The Finals -- Speaks for itself. The pageantry, the history, and oh yeah, great wrestling. For PSU, it's win with bonus!!

125: Moisey - Lee
133: DeSanto - Mueller
141: Lee - Eierman
149: Retherford - Heilmann
157: Joseph - Hidlay
165: Nolf - IMar
174: Hall - Lewis
184: Nickal - Dean
197: Iron Sheed - Miklus
285: Rachal - Snyder

Snyder had better avoid going upper body.

Because when he lands on Rachal''s chest, and one of Rachal's ribs pops out, he might get stabbed? Sorry to diss your guy like that.

Okay, tell me who could go with Gross better than Desanto on their feet? Nobody, end of story.

I won't argue that Desanto is right up there at the top of giving him a match in neutral. I'm just saying Gross is more than capable of taking him down and is also more than capable of turning him once he's taken him down. The match might not be in neutral for very long
