ACLU wrestling its way in????

Little difficult to field a women's wrestling team when there is very little participation by women in the sport.

Enter Women’s Rowing. Thanks to Title IX those programs sprung up everywhere and as far as I know, scholarships are continually awarded to HS athletes that never saw an oar in their lives.

Not that I disagree with the great opportunity for those taking advantage, but I had being sold that wrestlers are being squelched over it. What exactly do they want? There are women’s divisions at tourneys, women wrestle in boys tourneys, some teams and schools are trying to form teams and leagues. I feel like wrestling is bending over backwards to create a solution. There wouldn’t be Boys wrestling if there wasn’t interest.

Let’s face it, there is far more athlete interest in Sychronized Figure Skating and Quidditch l, and neither of them are varsity sports. Yet.

Isn't the claim here that the NWCA will not allow this woman to compete against men? I think "women wrestling in men's tournaments" is what they're asking for.

NCWA, National Collegiate Wrestling Association. Not the NWCA, the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are mischaracterizing her argument, taking umbrage over the lack-of-opportunities language. Without reading the suit, I'm pretty sure she'd readily concede what opportunities do exist. But she's saying that no opportunities exist at her chosen college because of discriminatory adherence to the NCWA rule; that if she's good enough to be on the mat with the men, then gender shouldn't be an issue. Agree or disagree with that, but at least take issue with the argument she is making instead of a straw man.

She is not good enough to be on the mat with men at the college level.

Interesting, I just went on the University of Michigan- Dearborn site, most of their sports are under NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) but wrestling is listed, with others, as a non-NAIA sport. But, here is where it gets interesting, if you click the wrestling links there are two different stories of woman wrestling and Marina Goocher winning her second straight NCWA national championship. I guess she just wants to wrestle guys, but the video makes it look like she is just sitting on a bench. Very misleading IMHO.

She could transfer to Rutgers.

with regard to rutgers and their recruiting standards.....she does seem to be more of a team player than a me first person.....could be wrong.

But maybe she would be really excited about wrestling in Yankee Stadium.... Oh wait.... never mind.

You serious tikk?
I've not seen her wrestle, but apparently she's pretty good and beat 100+ guys in high school. I'd be more skeptical if she was at a D1 school. But if she can beat a single guy at that level, she has a decent argument. And she evidently has the support of the coach as to whether she can help the team. So I'll not presume she can't.

Having watched Helen Maroulis for a few years now I honestly believe she could beat some male college wrestlers.

I deleted my post because i put a little more thought into it.

Women's rowing.
Participants are not necessary, just the opportunity.

Everything should be viewed as an opportunity and the wrestling community should embrace the push to expand women's wrestling.

Let wrestling people handle wrestling.

I'd venture to say more men in the US have become pro-women's freestyle, or have advocated for women's freestyle in the last five years than in the entire existence, prior. As wrestling people we see the skill, grit, and athleticism displayed. Do the women's tournaments always sell out? Maybe not, but far gone (for a majority, admittedly) are the days of "Oh, it's just women's wrestling." Or other unnecessarily-misogynistic ideals in our sport.

Let us govern us, you union ****s. We care about more than getting a headline and creating a headache.

If you had TR straddling the fence, see the lady at the front desk to collect your prize

PS-Mike C time to get your questions in, big bag tomorrow

Frankly, I should stick to that argument then. If she wants inclusion to wrestle men at the Championship level, then in the absence of structure that allows a women’s championship....let them in. I’m all for that.

Be good. Be great. Best whatever opponent is standing on the stripe across from you.
